Shades for baby’s bum

26.03.09 / Craft / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (42)

Just a survey for parents.

If you were to wear your kids, which color would you choose for your baby’s bottom (be it pants, skirt, cloth diaper). Do you normally prefer vibrant color or soft pastel?

Can you help me to choose 5 colors from the color chart above (one color from each shades is preferred).

**The winner (who chooses similar shades in Mama Patch finalise product) will entitle a little mystery gift from Mama Patch.

I am compiling all choices from each mummy into my excel sheet, so each comment helps, it really does!

Love Is All About Play

06.11.07 / Child's Play, Craft, Learning, My Scrapbook, Parenting, QQ, SL Buddhist, SL Playgroup / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (21)

Saturday: 3 November 2007

The year end is coming and it is reaching into the 8th month since I voluntary run this playgroup in Sg.Long Buddhist society. Initially when I was offered to give this a try, there was so much doubt that came to my mind such as:

  • What if I can’t handle the group
  • What if I need to go back to work one day
  • What if I do not have the time and energy to continue it

But if any mums out there asking me if I ever regret, I would say loudly, NO, I DON’T. In fact I hope my daughter can stay in this playgroup, forever and ever. Running this playgroup is the best thing ever happen to me, for the satisfaction is so much more than anything that money can buy. Mummies, if you can, each out and volunteer yourself for the sake of your own kids, and other children as well. Go search for societies, temples or church and offer them 2 hours a week to run a playgroup in your place. Anymore info on how to start that, I’ll help you to start it on scratch.

Ok, let me update about our last week’s activity.

See we have our own Underwater World, Safari, and Bird Park corner? Tell you, we even have a Jurassic Park!

These two mummies on duties, Joanne and Cheng Sim came out with a fantastic idea. Instead of free play for the first hour, they created a Pretend Zoo. Joanne took the initiative to show the kids some animals, along with some songs with noise the animals made. She even prepared a very easy and fun craft, a Spider to go with her Itsy-Bitsy-Spider song and actions.

See the nice animal on the velcro board? Cheng Sim did a very nice story telling using the velcro board animal where all kids can’t wait for their turn to stick the animal on board. During break, Kelly even surprise us this time with her nice little birthday bash for her little girl, Wen Wen. Each kid were treated a cup of homemade pudding, a lil cheese tart and a party pack.

I really appreciate all the effort put in from all mummies in this playgroup. Everything is so well planned and even most of the toys and stuffs were bring from home. Thank you to all of you, not only my girl enjoy this playgroup, but I am even more lucky to have found you all.

Craft: Muffin in a Boat by Kelly

bp1020605.JPGbp1020612.JPG

See the children anxiously waiting for their craft materials? It is not easy to have the children trained to wait patiently. To me, obviously there is a great help if a child has a chance to join a playgroup.

bp1020617.JPGbp1020614.JPG

This week, Kelly prepare some cut out boat template and bits of color paper. She even had her sister baked some moist chocolate muffins for the children. I always feel so blessed to know many wonderful mummies in the Saturday playgroup. This is how the boat look like. Since it is a printed template, all we have to do is just staple them up and sticked some color papers for the boat designs. See the boxes of the fresh muffins? Kelly, we love you lar…..

That is Joanne’s 2nd son, Wayneson posing with his boat muffin. After we finish our craft and muffins, the children used their boat and sing Row-row-row a boat :)

Chinese wooden clogs

17.09.07 / Child's Play, Craft, Family, Melaka, Parenting, QQ / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (12)

On Sunday, my mum wanted me to go to a temple in Jonker Street (a very famous Melaka historical street). We then passed by a shops displaying full of the traditional Chinese Clogs, nicely crafted wooden-soled shoe. In the olden days, people love to wear this in their kitchen. I still remember wearing them whenever I visit wet kitchen of some homes.

bp1020662.JPG

According to my mum, during her time, a pair of beautifully painted clog would usually be part of the dowry that accompany a new bride to her new home. This is one pair we got for QQ. They look so beautifully painted, isn’t it?

Threading boards

thread01.JPG

I found some new educational toys for our Saturday playgroup yesterday. One of it is the stitching board. A pack comes with 3 quality plastic boards (giraffe, hipo and elephant) and 3 sets of thick colorful threads only costs me about $20 (about $6 for each). You can get it here. I have been wanted to get the stitching apple long time ago but when I came across this, it captures my attention immediately. The board is wide so it makes handling easier for little hands.

thread02.JPG

This child’s stitching teaches hand and eye coordination, dexterity and pattern design besides building perceptual, cognitive, and motor skills. See how fun it is “sewing” on this board. Even me and nanny had fun with them. A great buy, I would say.

Appreciate Leah’s helpful feedback on how to string them. To learn more, read on her guide.

Craft storage

10.08.07 / Craft, smort / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (0)

Storage has been a problem with our playgroup. In our center, we already have one room, also the office for all our books and toys storage. Currently our toys are all squeezed into huge carton box. However it can be pretty messy when the children just chuck them in without arranging it properly into the box especially after the play session. As for our paper and craft storage, we have another big box to store our stationeries and tools. It is pretty convenient, but a proper place for segmentation would definitely make them looks neater and easier accessible.

It would be best to have a tool organiser which is see-through panels and portable for the convenience of our little children. Yazzii Storage Solutions came up with a very innovative idea for the Craft Storage solution. With their lightweight organisers, and also nice looking bag, setting up a craft projects certainly makes teaching more easier and convenient.

Playgroup : Introduction of cooking class (4th August 2007)

Stories: presented by Mummy Kelly
Crafts: Funny hat (prepared by me)
Cooking class: Tutti Fruity yogurt (prepared by Mummy Kelly)

Our playgroup has been running weekly constantly since four months back and by now, all our children are quite accustomed to the routine of our play. We start our session by free play and craft for an hour. We did simple funny hats from recycling plastic bag (ideas adapted from Harry Potter hats) and this is what we got.

funhat.JPG

Qiqi with her Bright Orange Sesame Tall hat. Ideas here.

After helping up clearing up the games and toys, the children will diligently take their turns, some even have to climb onto a chair, to wash their hands for their snack break. One of our mummy, Kelly, took a leap ahead this time, and introduced an easy cooking session to our little ones, preparing fruit salad for this session. Read more on the how to do. The idea of introduce cooking class for little children indeed delights me, for I have been looking forward to incorporate such activity for my gal (also one of the criteria when I check out Qiqi’s playschool).

We believe that kids learn best by doing and having fun. By delighting children in the classroom, we encourage a lifelong appreciation for food and healthy eating. Recipes are simple and fun and naturally incorporate skills like counting, measuring, recognizing symbols, words, and pictures.

Bravo to Mummy Kelly for this new idea and from now on, we will try to incorporate at least one simple food preparing session (once a month) into our play.

All goes for FREE

02.08.07 / Child's Play, Craft, remember me / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (1)

***ALL FOR FREE***

Do you believe in getting free money or free stuffs? I do. There is once I attended a two hour interview survey on my baby milk powder and I got eighty bucks for it. A fun two hour discussion to get eighty bucks is a lot of money for SAHM like me. Hey, good enough to do a day’s shopping, or a visit to a hair saloon for a relaxing hair wash.

Believe it or not, there is also a lot of Free Stuff to grab online. If you are into baby stuffs, there are free premium diapers, free bag tags from Nursery Walter, free sample on healing ointment for babies. If your child has already moved into toddlerhood, do grabs some of these free Planet Heroes DVD from fisher-price.com, free magic stuffs for your kids activity, or even download some paper craft projects for your play school. And how about printing your kids photos into stickers and print out for free? All you have to do is upload the image that you want into this site called Lbl.gov and you are own your way to the goodies. This is what I am looking forward to grab, as I would definitely need some projects for the playgroup that I am running.

*so deeply into concentration*

While I was blog hopping yesterday nite, I found something to do for Qiqi this morning from this fabulous site. We had just finished with the a piece of simple art (something good to distract her from “lau kai” upon waking up) before sending her to the nanny. Since I got a bunch of print outs from internet for her colouring sessions, today we decided to do something different and this is what we created with crayons, water color, and some water. Check out on the steps and her de’beautiful creation here, UNBELIEVABLE!

Playgroup : The Magic Week (28th July 2007)

30.07.07 / Child's Play, Chin Nee, Craft, Parenting, QQ, SL Buddhist, SL Playgroup / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (6)

slplay003a.JPG

We did something really nice in this session. Since we expected the attendance would be quite low, Mummy Cheng Sim suggested that we do something messy this time, and instead of having craft, we did food painting. See how to do.

slplay003c.JPG

To add to the excitement of this session, Mummy Vignes, who was supposed to do the story telling this week got his elder son, Sharven to perform magic for the children. He really did a great job on that and look, how the children and even adults all surrounded him during his performance!

slplay003d.JPG

Only at the age of nine, not only Sharven is a great magician but also can do story telling very well. He had a big book about the Jack and the Beanstalk, and with only a page, he managed to present the whole story out so lively! Thanks to you, Sharven and we hope you will come again!

De’Play on Tuesday

25.07.07 / Child's Play, Chin Nee, Craft, PJ Playcentre, Parenting, QQ / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (9)

Yesterday we had to wake up early (haha, only once in a week) to attend this playgroup in PJ. It was a bit drizzling in the morning, and the weather was quite cooling, so Qiqi refuse to change out from her Barney pyjamas. In fact when we were there, a little gal was asking me how come Qiqi is wearing her “jacket”, haha…so cute!

pjplay001a.JPG

As usual, she would go mess up herself either in the rice or sandpit whereby mummy would prefer doing the craft for the day.

pjplay001b.JPG

Craft ideas here.

Finally, I managed to pin her down for awhile with the dough while I get a bird. Everything today was presented by one of their organizer, Judy as we are expecting some visitors from a pre-school this morning.

pjplay001c.JPG

I must say that Judy is real good with her story telling and singing. Guess all the kids, even mums enjoy her sessions with her stories of all kinds of birds.

pjplay001d.JPG

During the story tellilng, all the children were sitted down munching on their snacks while listening to the interesting stories.

Crafts: Little Caterpillar (prepared by Mummy Cheng Sim)

craft001.JPG

Caterpillar ideas here

Mummy Cheng Sim came up with an interesting idea on the caterpillar craft. For more details of the craft, read here. With a caterpillar on hand each after the craft session, she told a story about the hungry caterpillar and presented them with a nice big books on holes. The children then had to squeeze their caterpillar through the holes of the book as if they are munching the leaves, apples, whatever food the caterpillar had on the book.

slplay001.JPG

slplay002.JPG

The children were having lots of fun with their caterpillars. After that, Mummy Audrey did another interesting story about Numbers and lead the us with some interesting play and songs before the session ends.

Story: The Lion and the Proud Fox (by me)
Crafts: Beans Art (by me) & CD Clock (full heartedby prepared by Mummy Jane)

Highlights

beans_art2.JPG

Last saturday, at the playgroup, we had 2 crafts, with one additional during the free play session. For children who would like to do some art work, we provide them some beans (u can use any beans) to trail them on the glued area on a drawing or their names. A very simple and fun art for little kids, and this is really testing them on their patience.

clock.JPG

After our snack break, there is another craft, making clock from a CD (see earlier posting). Each kids were so excited with their clock that they posed a picture holding their masterpiece. Before the session ended, we had a Hickory-Dickory-Dock game, organised by Mummy Joanne. Whenever the clock striked, there will be a number of children who have to went into hiding following the strikes of the clock. What a good idea, haha!!

Simple crafts

16.07.07 / Child's Play, Craft / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (1)

I always love finding ideas to kids craft. Partly is because I had to do it for my gal’s playgroup, and also some extra ideas here in my other blog to standby, just in case anyone on duty from my playgroup need them. So far, ideas contributed from other mums are even more sopthisticated and nice than what I found from the internet!

I signed up with a weekly email newsletter and these are some of the ideas IÂ received today.
