Stop baking for a moment

I think I have not been touching my oven ever since I baked for Chinese New Year. It is good in a sense that I will not over eat too much as I love cakes. Not only it is fattening, cakes are really oily and bad for skin too. I’ll need some best acne remedy if I ate too much cakes normally. So, having occupied with something else is good to keep me away from my oven, at least for the time being (especially after having too much feasts during the CNY celebration!)

We all sound very sexy now

It is only about a week to Chinese New Year but the boys have not recovered. Korkor still has his fever coming on and off, and both of them still have sticky diarhoea-like poo. Korkor has not been eating for many days already. Luckily I have not wean them so at least they still get their nutritious and sterile breastmilk from me.

It all start with QQ having fever and her sexy coarse voice on last Saturday (she told me her new voice so nice, funny!) Today the boys also turned extremely “sexy” (perhaps with too much of screaming) and by evening, even my maid’s voice turned sexy too!

Luckily we finish shopping for CNY so we can avoid the crowds on weekends. Hubby even done his decoration at home, putting up lanterns in our terrace. I still need to get some CNY cookies and a kuih bakul to decorate our dining table (currently still using it as my working table). Later this week or early next week, a friend and I have even plan to cook up a storm for a CNY dinner at QQ’s ex-nanny’s place before we all leave home for CNY celebration (although I am still wondering if I should cook or buy something instead)

How about you? Any plan for these few days before the CNY arrives?

So much into cooking

Must be stress again or what, I am so into cooking these days (instead of baking). I enjoy learning to cook new dishes, especially spicy food since there is a Kakak to help me pound cilli and ingredients. See what I have learn to cook very recently.

Sambal Udang , Sambal Belacan Kacang Botol

Sambal Belacan, Daging Pongteh, and more at my food blog @ www.decuisine.net

Sei mou, don’t say loose weight, how not to gain weight? Even plain white rice also becomes extra nice with spicy dishes like this. Furthermore, hubby can’t take spicy food much as his stomach can’t take it therefore it all ends up in my stomach. Don’t think I will be able to wear sexy tight breeches anymore when I go riding in future.

Bake Wings + Red Eggs for the boys

12.07.09 / Baking/Cooking, Celebration, Twins / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (19)

I love celebrations. It has been a while since the TAN’s birthday and I feel bored again. Since we already have so many celebrations for the boys (until QQ also asked me how come her brothers got so many birthdays), I decided just to do something simple here on the actual date of the boy’s birthday. No cake (only small banana cupcakes) and bake wings for dinner….Yummy…!!!

Marinated chicken wings sitting on a bed of cut veges (carrots, onion, potato)

To have some sauce for the dish, I poured all the remaining marinated sauce onto the baking tray which is full of cut vegetables. (please don’t ask me for recipe, I just hantam whatever sauce is available in my kitchen)

A Platter of Bake Wings with Vege, 2 red eggs and a cupcake for neighbours

Since I only had 6 eggs at home, I only did 2 extra platters for a neighbour who help me to transport QQ daily to school and QQ’s ex-nanny who is staying 2 doors away. Guess what happened?

It’s my maid again. She forgotten about the stove and almost burn my house while cooking all the eggs. All water in the pot went dry and the eggs turned black. Grrrr….I was fuming mad because I do not have any more eggs to dye red. Anyway to cut story short, I just get her to go over to nanny’s place to borrow some eggs.  In order to “remind my maid for her forgetfullness AGAIN”, she have to pay me back the cost of 6 eggs (I know it does not cost much) and then she had all the burned eggs for herself. I am lazy to scold her anymore, and afterall human tend to make mistakes, so just keep one eye close and not let her spoilt my mood for that night.

Choux Puffs for a Saturday tea

While posting some choux puffs I baked earlier this afternoon, I just realised that I forgotten to post what I did for my boy’s first birthday on their actual birthday celebration at home. Silly me…don’t know what’s wrong with me these days. Last time I make sure I will upload at least a posting everyday on my blog, but now..haha…almost abandoned, so no mood to blog already. Perhaps lack of blogging income, thus lack of motivation to write.

Choux Puffs (cream puffs) with Vanilla milk cream

(If you need this Japanese recipe and great tips, it is here and here)

Actually it is for my cousin and little brother who is coming over tomorrow. Nothing grand, but just something simple for us to munch at tea time. I thought the batter was a bit dry but luckily they still fluff up very nicely. Phiew…..

I’ll be just making some easy fried mee hoon with my yummy chicken curry for lunch tomorrow. Just learn how to cook great curry from my grandma (actually also it is her curry powder that makes my curry even more tasty).

Hmm..without any exercise and so much of nice food coming out from my kitchen, it is extremely difficult to get slim yeah for someone who loves food as much as I do.

coming up next, my Bake wings and the Burned red eggs….

We did this and this….

Cupcakes ain’t cake?

I am so pissed off with him last night that I had to scream at him while having our dinner (if I still have those cupcakes with buttercream, I’ll throw them onto his face!)

Since the day I started to bake a few years back, I have been telling myself that I would one day want to bake for my own children’s birthday, be it a cake or cupcakes. Seeing that cupcakes is in trend now (actually more easy for me to decorate), I decided to go for cupcakes, at least until my piping skill improve.

But from the moment he knew I am gonna bake for them, he keep on asking me, many many times until yesterday, if my cake is going to be presentable, and he told me he prefer getting a “proper cake”  from the shop for her girl’s birthday celebration in school (so that her girl could be proud CUTTING the cake instead of just having cupcakes)

After all the attempts and trials, all the hardwork and sweat (while I leave the boys crying behind) I am really dissappointed :(

It is now either I am going to bake ONLY CUPCAKES for all 3 functions (QQ’s school birthday celeb, boys birthday with family in Kuantan, and Melaka which I plan to buy from my favourite shop) to release my anger, OR he can have to use up all his great saving from the cash drawer, go and order 3 cakes for 3 occasions, apply leave from work so he could personally collect and send his version of “presentable cake” to his girl’s school!

By having my new oven this year, I am so tempted to bake, bake and bake for the Chinese New Year celebration (don’t care if the boys cries echo behind!, *sweating and panting*

See my first attempt of Bak Kua (dried meat). No need to grill on charcoal. I just used my oven to bake them. However my whole kitchen gets smelly from the meat baking. Even my new discount Hansgrohe faucets get stained. See how I made them.

Then I made the Meat Floss Fried Spring Roll. A little bit gigantic compare to those sold outside. Lazy me, I got to finish what I do only in one morning so I can make others the next day. After frying, they turned out *lembik* (soft and filled with oil). See what I did to make them stay extra crispy for weeks (GREAT TIPS!!!)

This is called “Kok Chai” or in English, Little Peanut Puff. Failed failed miserably. First I cannot twist the puff, and then again it turns soft very fast.

At last not forgetting my favourite pineapple tarts. I only managed to bake one canister for my own home, one canister to bring back to hubby’s home in Kuantan, one canister for my mother and…

and one box for my kind neighbour who helps me fetch QQ to and back from school daily without any charge. Recipe on decuisine.net.

Gluten free baby cereal

Although the boys are now moving into their 7th month, I have yet to start “double-boil” (hehe…so ambitious..) their porridge. Will only do so once we settle down from travelling after the CNY.

It is so difficult to find organic baby cereal these days. Yesterday while hunting for one in 1U (where I bought the Holle Organic Semolina Porridge), I am so surprise that the only organic shop in I Utama had been closed down! There is another new organic shop (near to Cold Storage). However they do not sell any baby cereal.

Luckily I manage to get this above baby cereal from one organic shop in Sg.Long (near to 100yen shop but they sell only this brand). Made in France, it cost RM22.90 per tin (even more expensive than those coming from USA). This quinoa cereal is also free from milk, sucrose and gluten.

According to the shop owner, tin type is much better than the box cereal as it is much more cleaner (such as the Healthy Times Premium where those cereal were placed directly in the paper box, available in Carefour).

After trying 3 types of different cereal, finally I found Di-di’s favourite, but Kor-kor still prefer the Healthy Times Premium Organic Baby Cereal.

So far, I have added:

  • plain water (for their first feeding)
  • scrap banana (the twins favourite)
  • apple (I think I should steam them next time)
  • milk powder (usually in the morning or when I run out of things to add)

Cashewnut cookies (2nd CNY cookies)

These 2 weeks will be very busy for me. Since Audrey will be here to accompany (helping, actually) me to bake, we decided that we will bake all our CNY this year. After sending her boys to school, she comes over to my place, and even shopped for all the baking ingredients for me. Such a kind friend yeah…..

Can see the cute shape of our Cashewnut cookies? We used recipe from Agnes Chang. Recipe here.

A blogger friend just came in time, bringing me my Tomica vege cutter, all the way to my house from Chooi Peng. She also helps me to deliver my pineapple jam. As my hands and legs were all tied up with the boys (dono why they do not wanna nap in the morning when I am baking cookies), she even stayed on and helped us to bake!!!

Hope over my other blog at decuisine.net to see who she is. Thank you, friend!

We start baking

01.01.09 / Baking/Cooking, Child's Play, Chin Nee, Family, Parenting, QQ, remember me / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (19)

We had a mad rush again yesterday afternoon. While one of the boy was sleeping (another one with Kakak screaming behind), QQ and I quickly start out to work.

Things 4-yr-old QQ could do to help me during baking:

  • sieve the flour
  • roll the pastry
  • cut and stamp the pastry

So, I only have to

  • measure ingredients
  • mix the flour and Planta (I use rubbing-in method)
  • shape the jam onto the mould
  • manage the oven

In fact, I think QQ could even able to do all the above, if only I teach her to. I find that she really has good talent in baking, even her little hands could handle delicate items, at such young age. Thank GOD I have a daughter !!

Our first batch of Nyonya Pineapple Tart here, using the original Nyonya recipe and method. Will make more cookies from now on :) Just hope my waist will not grow horizontal otherwise I’ll need to pop diet pill again.*got to run, boys crying again*…ARggghhh!!!!!

First experience with my new Oven

I was so afraid that I might fall sick again, and guess what, I am down with bad flu again. My body is so weak after the confinement and whenever any of the kids at home fall sick, I will surely get their bugs. Even today, someone told me that I have got a very weak womb and it is so obvious shown on my face (dark dull skin around my mouth area).

It is really not easy to take care of the boys although they are almost 6 months now. I have been going through sleepless nights and constantly fall sick after sending my Confinement Lady off home with the Newark Airport Car Service. Luckily there is maid to keep an eye on the sleeping kids in the afternoon so I could steal a short nap. At least home are cleaned and meals are prepared with another helper around.

I was so looking forward to attend one gathering with some old friends but so sad that I could not make it last minute. Nevertheless, QQ and I had some fun baking with our new oven during the long holiday.

Mickey & Minnie Mouse Butter Cookies

Although we did not celebrate Christmas, we still did some Christmas cookies (recipe of butter cookies) to give away to our neighbours (QQ’s friends). See how crowded my table top is now with my HUGE new oven and read some of our funny experience with our new oven.

Happy Winter Solstice

Big white ones are with fillings. I bought them. Lazy to pound the ingredients. Little pink ones, are plain and rolled by QQ. This balls are our breakfast in the morning.

While hubby was doing marketing in the morning, he was shocked to see that the price of vege doubled up! It could be due to the festive season, how horrible….!!

Nothing much to do, except sitting at home while enjoying the musical Mama Mia DVD that hubby bought from the market this morning.

Nyonya Pineapple Tarts

Miche’s Nyonya Tarts

CNY is around the corner again, and this time I will to bake REAL Melaka Nyonya Pineapple tarts. Although the pineapple jam can be bought easily from bakery shops, I tell you, they do not taste as nice as compare to the Melaka Nyonya homemade ones.

I have called several Pineapple tarts maker from Jonker Street in Melaka if they are keen to sell the cook grated pineapple, but sadly they don’t (of course they are smart not too). Until I found Miche again. Guess what, she will ask if her mum could make the paste for me this time. Geee, *so happy*…..Thanks in advance, Miche!

Thanks to Miche’s effort, last year I manage to learn how to make the beautiful Nyonya pastry from a video of her mum making them posted on her blog. However my tarts did not taste as good as those produced by her mum due to the tasteless commercial sold pineapple jam.

If you wish to taste real Nyonya tarts, quickly place an order with Miche here (although I have no idea how she is going to ship the tarts to you, hehe…)

Hmm….do remember to check out my lovely tarts soon!

Introducing solid

De Bumbo Boys @ 5 months 2 weeks

Like any other new mummy, I am so eager and excited to start my twin boys on solid. Even though this is the 2nd time introducing solid to new baby, I am still very excited. But when I think of this would be my last round of having little babies, I feel a bit sad. (Next round to play with babies must wait maybe another 20 years until I can play with my grandchildren). So now must give everything the best to the boys!

Bought in 1U organic shop (LG floor)

Got a box of this organic cereal ready in shelf while waiting for the right time to start solid. And since they have been crying so frequently, I decided to let them try it last night. Outcome? They love it when I add it with some warm water! Since they are barely 6 months, I only start with one tbsp, in the morning, and one in the evening. Instead of mixing bm into it (lazy to express), I will add some milk samples (accumulating in my cabinets) to see if they like it.

Can’t wait to learn more easy recipes for 6 month old babies from bloggers out there. Appreciate tips!
