Hotel at Kowloon or Hong Kong Island?
Spending so much flying so far to Hong Kong would be no meaning if we do not spend a day to experience the busy life of Hong Kong. So after 2 nights in Hong Kong Disneyland, we moved over to another hotel in town.
But Kowloon or Hong Kong?
Some friends told me they would prefer to stay over at hotels in Hong Kong Island. Better environment, and cleaner town, as they said. But some would say that Kowloon is a better choice because you get to see and feel the real Hong Kong, where plenty eateries shopping streets are within walking distance.

Kitchenette and extra bathroom and changing area of the Royal Plaza Suite
When My SIL insisted staying at Royal Plaza, I thought why not, so our kids can stay near and play with each other. I booked a Family Room which consist of a Queen Bed and one Double Bed. A room with 2 big beds to fit in all of us (inc my mum) is certainly not easy to find in Hong Kong because most of their hotel rooms are super small.

Living Hall our Suite
By the time we arrived in Kowloon (took a cab from Disney Hollywood Hotel), it was almost 9.30pm. During check in, the receptionist at the hotel told us that he would upgrade our stay to a Suite instead because all rooms are occupied by then.
Well, kinda great to have a free upgrade, and we even have 2 bathrooms to use!
But the Suite was so HUGE and a bit aged, that hubby and I was feeling *cold* the moment we walked into our Suite. Thank goodness the *cold feeling* was gone a while after we got into that room, *****P..H..I..E..W..*****

Our very spacious room with another attached bathroom and changing area
Unfortunately no matter how huge a Suite is, it has only one King size bed and it could not certainly fit us all (3 adults, 3 kids ler!)
The receptionist was kind to add in another single bed plus a baby cot for us so that solves the problem. Mum took the single bed while another boy used the cot while the rest of us had to squeezed into the King size bed because hubby did not wanna sleep alone on the sofa in that lonely living hall, LOL!
We kinda like this Suite after we stayed in there, and did not switch back to Family Room on the second night. Hubby and I who usually woke up early everyday at least can relax, on the TV, plan our itinerary and have our tea next door without having to lit up the whole room and disturb mum and kids who sleep till late.
Royal Plaza Kowloon
- conveniently situated in Prince Edward Road, Mongkok, Kowloon
- have free scheduled shuttle bus to Tsim Sha Tsui every hour or so (but we did not wait for it)
- is walking distance (through a mall, by covered flyover pedestrian bridge) to all the famous streets (Sport Shoes, Ladies, Goldfish, Electronic) in Kowloon
- has lot of eateries around
- an old established hotels with some very beautiful refurbished Deluxe rooms
Notes of family with lots of little kids
Royal Plaza Kowloon is a great location who love to stroll and shop right in the middle of the hustle busy Kowloon. But with 3 tagging kids (2 need to be carried plus one walking girl who need to be held close), I find that walking around busy Kowloon with kids was kinda dangerous because the walkway on those busy streets was so narrow until I had to hold on QQ tight, so afraid she would run down by the quick flying by vehicles!
With kids, I would rather stay in the clear and spacious Hong Kong island in future!
Total Spent
- Cab to Kowloon: HK$210
- 2N Stay in Royal Plaza Family Room: HK$2340
- Dim Sum dinner/supper on Kowloon Street: HK$200
….next coming up, places we visited and famous eateries we went to in Hong Kong
