Real handmade dolls

My Doll and the little me

This doll in the picture was my first doll. Not sure if this was the only doll I had, but I remember the face very well. Probably my only doll, well I am not very sure.

When QQ asked for a doll, I could not find her any suitable one. She has two or three Barbies, and she enjoy playing with them. But I know she wasn’t satisfied with those, as if she is asking for a companion……

Then I saw this one……….

QQ’s officially First Handmade Cloth Doll

And fell in love with it, instantly!

This dolly wears a red thigh, and thighs are just QQ’s favourite. ItĀ  matches so well with a knitted shirt, made of blue stripey socks. Lilian made her plaited hair and she looks so cute with her chubby red cheeks.

I like how this doll is constructed, and her neutral face expression

It is no ordinary doll, but a TOTAL handmade, fully hand shaped, and hand stitched, thread after thread, in and out, from head to toe. An exclusively handmade made from little more than fabric and yarn, so full of love of the doll maker.

She will do a soft and sweet companion. It can surely accompany lonely QQ, helping this shy growing up girl enrich her inner child’s imagination.

Even these delicate butterfly hair band is fully handmade…

Initially I thought Lilian sewn the outline with a sewing machine and stitched them up but she said she sewn everything! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

Tiny little beads sewn to pink flowers on this felt sweater

Lilian’s doll and truly delicate. Amazing!

See what I have got for myself, a pretty Ballerina handmade Doll!

And not enough of it, I ended up getting one myself too.Who said Mummy can’t play dolls ?

Pretty little pink butterfly on my little tutu

My ballerina doll is slightly taller than QQ’s and chubbier too. She wears a pretty magenta ballerina outfit and a white tutu with a pink butterfly on it’s waist, matching it’s hair pink band.

Introduction about Lilian, the doll maker

Lilian happens to be a friend of mine, and I was told she made dolls as a hobby ever since she was young. It is her childhood dream of becoming a professional dolls maker and until today, she had authored 3 craft books. Besides, Lilian also made dolls, and do craft-related projects to raise fund for Segamat flood relief, for Japan tsunami relief , for schools, for temples and for children activities.

When Lilian came to visit me with her dolls, I asked her what does she do, and she shyly mentioned she does admin job in lecturing. And my jaw almost dropped when my friend told me Lilian is actually a DEAN in a private local university!

Interested to get one for you little girl too?

I asked Lilian if she is interested to sell them to all my friends, and she said she would do another 10 so I can place it on Mama Patch Handmade website. In case you are wondering, an average doll like this size between 22-30cm tall.

Update 6/9/2011:

Lilian still have some dolls, but they are still in her hometown, Muar at the moment. If you are interested, she will send the pictures to me some where next week. Each doll is estimated to price between Rm120~Rm150 each (size differs slightly from 22-30cm each).

Custom made is possible but you might not like the end result because sometimes features of the face might run in each handmade. Hence, it might be better for me to upload the pictures first here (or on Mama Patch Website) so you can decide if you like them before you decide to purchase :)

  6. Oooo…so cute. Why no nose? My daughter had a cute one like that too…and she had a nose - a tiny little ball…and my daughter - the demolition squad - pulled it off. LOL!!! That’s so small though… Would prefer bigger ones (as big as yours).

  7. Can chup one for me? I know the girls will fight over it, but let just have one first till mummy can afford more. They r fighting over one doll these few days including bb. And I realise they don’t have a sweet soft doll as companion all these years. One that they can hug to sleep.

  8. Very cute and adorable indeed. Handmade dolls don’t come cheap; it can be quite pricey, depending on the intricate details and size. And some are collectors’ items.

Nah, I don’t think I’ll get such a pricey doll for my gal. (at least not now). She is a “destroyer” ! lol
