Mooncakes for Mid Autumn 2011

My hunt for Teochew mooncakes begins as early as August this year, when our Chinese calender moves into the Hungry Ghost Festival.

Jane gave me two pieces of her all-time Teochew Mooncake from Klang. They tasted very fragrant with lots of lard in it but I find it too oily for my liking.

Then I saw this Teochew Mooncake from Tianje, a Teochew mooncake maker originate from Muar. Well, not bad, but it’s halal.

While shopping in Jusco one day, we came across these beautiful piglet in a basket from Eu Yan Sang. They are only 80 sen for each basket, super cheap right ???

After a long search, Teochew Mooncake from Setapak Teochew Restaurant is still the best for me.  Non-halal, as they contain a little lard, but not so overpowering. Just nice!

Now I had so much lard, I might even need to get myself some wholesale life insurance to protect myself from landing at the hospital due to block arteries!

Now, move to Bing Pi mooncake.

The only Bing Pi mooncake I love and always remembered was the very famous Durian Mooncake from Goodwood Park Hotel Singapore. When many friends told me that Durain Mooncake from Shangri-la and Mandarin Oriental are on par, I decided to try out this year.

Got these Mini Durian Mooncake from Mandarin Oriental (diameter only as small as your thumb) for Rm12.80 after 20% discount. Too bad, they are not even a 10% as good as Goodwood Park hotel. Wasted RM96 for these :(

And finally I made a trip back to Melaka few weeks back, when my brother brought 4 big pieces of the very famous Durian Mooncake fro Singapore. *yuuummmm……yummmm*…….Hooray! Search Mission accomplished!!!
