Badly scratched National inner rice pot

Our daily lunch basket, for the kids to dine out, right after their morning classes

We have been cooking a lot at home, after I had the boys. I prefer preparing variety lunch, like noodles, sandwiches, but I find that the twins eat better if I cook rice. So, everyday, we cook two meals and most of the time, the kids eat rice, lunch and dinner.

My badly peeled off and scratched National Rice Cooker inner pot

When I recently read about the danger of using scratched pot and pans with non-stick coating (that may undergo chemical reactions while cooking, or may emit toxic gases and particles at normal heating temperature), I was terrified because I have been using my faithful 10 years National Rice/Porrige cooker in this condition!!

Before the maid arrives, our rice would not stick to my rice cooker but when the maid came over, it became like this. I told her, many many times to handle these non-stick with care, but seems like I am speaking to a buffalo instead, useless……*shake head*

Hence today, I ordered an Endo Stainless Steel Rice Pot (Rm178) from Buffalo and it fits perfectly into my National SR-M15UA rice cooker. Not cheap though, but at least it is stainless steel but I was told it can withstand abrasive washing or steel sponge.

If you have problem with your rice pot, you might wanna check if Buffalo sells also the replacement rice pot for your rice cooker model.

  1. Wah….that pot is so badly scratch…. hope your new pot tahan lasak ! haha

  2. Yeah my mum also tell me to check with Buffalo outlet if the inner pot is spoilt and don’t throw away the rice cooker immediately.

  3. hhh… your stainless rice pot so gorgeous leh, now can not only cook rice, can steamboat and cook yummy soup too!

  4. oh my pot is terrible scratch too. But nowadays my MIL use to steam rice on stainless steel bowl instead of using rice cooker.

  5. You just reminded me about my BRAND NEW rice pot that was badly scratched and damaged by some guests who scraped the bottom of the pot with a metal spoon (during my house-warming dinner). So heart-pain :( I’ve since put it aside and have been cooking our rice in a small pot over the stove. I’m really interested in getting this stainless steel pot but not sure if it will fit my Philip rice cooker. Will check it out and see. Thanks for the tip :)

  6. Yalor, whn we were out vacation at Port Dickson or Cameron, always brought along the rice cooker(if we rented an apartment), then buy the local raw product and make steamboat, we even saute with the rice pot, but I reckon it’s better to use the stainless steel pot, especially those with multilayer coating, at least guarantee won’t scrap off the material.;D

  7. Same here with my maid. These maids don’t care coz they don’t have to pay if the pots and pans get replaced. And we also don’t have the heart to ask them to pay. Sigh…

  8. I keep changing the spoil coated rice pot until I found the “Home Plus” Stainless steel rice cooker (whole set stainless steel) five years ago. Until now it’s still in good condition.

  9. I have just bought the inner pot for my Panasonic rice cooker (SR-M15UB). I am having some problem on the amount of water used. When I am cooking white rice (Floral Fragrant rice) , it is either to hard or too watery. Same goes for Brown rice.

Please share how much water you should used for the white rice and brown rice. And also when you should switch off the power when the rice is cooked. Thank you.
