Kuantan local delicacies

Now that my parents in law are not around, we only go back to Kuantan about 4 times a year. Hence food is something not to be missed, each time we go back. Last weekend, we just went back to Kuantan again, for Qing Ming Prayers.

Although it is only a short weekend trip, we managed to tap on to some local delicacy. While looking for the famous Karipap (sorry I forgot to take a pic) at Taman Gelora, I just can’t help admiring at those huge bungalow land. There are even some new bungalows in that area now and I am wondering if there is any methadone detox center in that well developed area.

Our all time favourite - Mustafa Cendol (let me know if you can find any better one than this)

One that we would not miss daily is the famous plain Indian Cendol in Kuantan, which is operated by people coming from India. This stall is situated next to the Shell Station, on the opposite road heading towards Teluk Cempedak. You can even google and find their website online!

Satah and Otak-otak Bakar from Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan

Unlike otak-otak from the south (Muar to be exact), Otak-otak from east coast has more fish in it (you can even see chunk of fish).  Hubby used to praise so much about their otak-otak and commented that those from our place (south) is only made of flour.

Nevertheless, I love both otak-otak now and it is a must to get whenever we go home to East (hubby’s home) or South (my hometown)

Kuih Bakar from Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan

I do not know the exact name for this kuih above, and it is quite commonly found anywhere. But nothing beats this one, which is sold next to the Otak-otak stall in Tanjung Lumpur (which is famous for their Ikan Bakar). Tanjung Lumpur is opposite Kuantan River at the big traffic light, in front of BMW, on the road heading to Teluk Cempedak).

They bakar this under a wooden hut, next to Otak-otak and Satah on the spot. Sometimes there is even a queue and it is really worth waiting for these local delicacies. Check out where we went next with the kids!

  1. Eh…I didn’t know that Kuantan got so many nice food around. The last time we went were for a friend wedding dinner, I think about 10 years back.

  2. wah…really a lot of local delicacies. Been to Kuantan once only…that was very very long ago.

  3. Oooh…..any other good places to eat? Nothing like those small delicacies indeed. Must remember your blog the next time I make a trip to Eastcoast.

  4. There are quite a lot of good food in the east coast. I miss the satah ikan. Too bad we can hardly find it in the Klang Valley. I find it so much tastier than otak-otak :)
