Ancient school still exist in 2011
continue from previous post about Chinese School today…
Despite horrifying toilets I posted earlier on FB like this…this….and this…

Ancient toilet probably built the same year of this school, in 1937 (even before Merdeka)
Come, let me tour you some part of the school and tell you stories that I know.
Until now, many parents from my area are still flooding high, fighting hard to get a place in this place call Chinese Primary School, which is the nearest to our area. Driving kids to this school is a complete madness as we need to pass by some very narrow road at this village.

QQ was found standing at the corner of the table eating her catered canteen food
Unlike other many school, cater food in this school cannot be arranged on the limited tables in this tiny canteen. Space is so limited there, so whoever come out from class first get to use the table first. Kids who cater food need to SQUEEZE between super huge crowd into their canteen to pick up their food from the kitchen. Chances to find a place to seat is almost impossible because there are already more than 600+ kids in Std 1 alone.
So I taught QQ to hang her tumbler across her shoulder, and just quickly STAND AND EAT at whatever end table space she can squeeze herself into. Good that my “little warrior” managed to do that all by herself when I went to visit her on the 2nd day
P’/s: Now we all know that how people from Chinese school background always easily labeled with “kiasu-ism” attitude, as they are being “trained” so well to “survive” in such condition for at least 6 years in their early childhood learning, hehe….(no offense to all our WARRIOR friends who were from Chinese primary school

Saw the village wooden houses next to the canteen wall?
Although the kids number in this school is increasing tremendously (flooding-in-kids from our new and highly populated area into this village school), there is obviously NO WAY for any more expansion in this school because they are all surrounded by private village houses. We cannot probably tear down people’s house right?
Tell you, not only the kids in most Chinese school nowadays are pitiful, the teachers are even more “kesian” having to control such a big class, not to mention marking so many books daily.

Zinc roof open area assembly hall
Besides the condition of the old toilet in that old wing, I came to know that the PIBG has done quite a lot to improve the school condition. For instant, it is the school own effort to collect donation to do all the upgrade here and there, phase by phase.

Afternoon session kids sitting in line, waiting to dismissal of the morning session kids from their class
Although their assembly hall (also basket ball court) is made of zinc roof, at least the kids has got a place to shelter them from rain pour or direct hot sun while waiting to go into their classroom. But still I can’t stand the heat while I was there. SI-BEH HOT ler, even though it was very cloudy these few days…

Kids classroom at the old wing
so “ulu” looking right? Hahahaha!!! I have not seen any school like this in Melaka even when I was a child and yet class room like this still exist in one of the most advance area in SELANGOR…..
How I miss my beautiful and nicely built spacious school in Melaka

Can you spot QQ who sat next to the window, happily chatting with her friends, and laughing away?
Friends and neighbours told me kids adapt to their environment very easily. And my shy girl is very lucky to have many friends she knew from her kindy. So on the 2nd day, when me and some mothers car pool there to spot check on our kids, and hey, our kids look so fine!

Kids eating by the staircase leading down to assembly hall
I initially suggested QQ to bring her own food so that she could join her class mates eating here as some parents said told me that their kids stomach are sensitive to school food (probably due to hygiene problem?)
However my girl insists on getting food from the canteen. Well, I think it is a great idea, so she get to practice fighting herself into that war-zone to obtain her food, HAHAHA!!!

Still under construction drop off area kids area
Thank GOD, something begins to look decent at the entrance to the school. Newly built covered walkway into the school is now under construction, but I am sure it will be ready in no time.
After being there with my girl in this school for almost 2 full days with some friends (we sent them there, visit during recess, and pick up from school), I would just say that I am counting my blessing that QQ secure a place in one of the top Chinese School in Selangor which is nearest to our place.
To be frank, I have no more complaint for this school as I know facilities inside will upgrade as when they receive enough money to fund whatever they need to do.
But I am praying very hard (or probably got to work on something hard too?) so that our center government will quickly build the so-called APPROVED Chinese School in our very highly populated area now. Err..I doubt the school will be readily built for my boys in another 2 years time?????
Hint or please write to me if you have ways to help, okay? I seriously cannot imagine how the condition of the school in high density area will become or how many of our kids will be turned down a placement in future!
Note: For privacy and safety purposes, school name and location shall remain anonymous.

Hmm…just my opinion. not all kids from chinese school turn out to be kiasu. Trained to survive in such ‘condition’ would turn them to be independent but definitely not kiasu. Kiasu-ism are like those we see at the buffets where everyone rush to get all the good food and not lining up or those who afraid they will be the last to get in
Children who grow up with kiasu attitude most probably learned it from their parents who are kiasu
Overall it’s not too bad lah. Except for the toilet and the tiny canteen, everything else looks fine to me. I’m sure there are many more worse schools out there. I also came from an ancient school (built in 1918, I think) with very minimal comfort and facilities and I have no complaints about that
I don’t think the kids will mind all these…
Looking at the students makes me feel so tensed up. haha… my son will be entering primary 1 in 2 years time and I already started to get worried. hahaha…..think too much. Hope QQ will enjoy her primary school….
So terrible…this kind of school in the town/city area. Here in Sibu, the late YB did a lot for the Chinese schools and the aided primary and secondary schools as well (especially the Christian mission ones) so all upgraded…all very nice. Too bad he had cancer and died… Since then, nothing much happening already…
Huh? I posted a comment and it disappeared. Too lazy to type again… Hehehehehe!!!
P.S. Send photos to newspapers… Sure action will be taken right away - especially the political parties jumping on the bandwagon to try and win the Chinese votes…
Holy smoke, this school especially its canteen and W.C really need a make over!!! O_o
Due to space constraint, the school is actually tolerable. I’m sure the school and the PIBG is doing all they can to upgrade the facilities, like the zinc roof assembly area and covered walkway at the entrance as shown in your pics. But what I can’t fanthom is why the toilet facilities are left out in the upgrading work (or did not deserve the priority, for that matter). Isn’t it common sense that teaching our kids the basic personal hygiene habits and providing “sensible” toilet facilities is important??
Anyway, I hope QQ will be happy and do well in the school
they probably gotta start with toilet construction first
Em I guess it’s a different of Fully & Half fully Residential School. Really pathetic huh.
ooh dear…the toilet is really gross, sorry but i really pity the kids that use them *sad*
anyway, i hope QQ will enjoy school !!
I think with space contraints…the toilet can be upgraded because no extra space requires…
Talking about canteen..Jeriel’s canteen is super crowded so we found him alternative place to have his snack…
