Surprise finding in my girl’s school

Longkang style children’s toilet without a proper flushing system in QQ’s primary school
- I am sorry I cannot disclose this school name to protect the safety of my kid

I was in TOTAL SHOCK when I visited my girl’s school toilet this week. Ya, tell you, I still consider what I saw above is in one of the best condition toilet in that school. At least the above toilet is bright (and still clean during the holiday la….) because I have visited even more horrifying dark, haunted like (so narrow until I also cannot squat) with non functioning flush toilets which is situated nearer to canteen area in this school when I went to my girl’s school for placement confirmation earlier this year…eee…

I do not blame the school, as this is originally a very old school which is situated a very tiny cramp village. But with more and more kids from the booming population Chinese generation in our area, those who can afford will surely send their kids into private school. But for the majority average family with so many kids like us, we all have no choice but to SQUEEZE, BEG, FORCE, QUEUE, FIGHT from wee morning to get into this Chinese Primary School which is nearest to our place.

Not only the facilities in this school is in very old condition, it is extremely cramp inside too. Each class has about an average of 50 kids, and this year Standard 1 has 13 -15 classes. Because the space for the school is so small, they have to build up to 4 storeys building (so you can imagine how pityful our kids carry up and down their heavy bags so many storeys).

I am extremely disappointed with our center government for delaying on building the promised AND APPROVED Chinese school in our area although land has been allocated. We moved into our new houses here 10 years back with a big hope for our kids in future, but until today, we still got nothing but only BUSHES on that allocated land for TAPAK SEKOLAK.

Nevertheless I know it is hopeless to hope anymore, and I decided to let QQ continue in this hard-to-get-in school rather than to do the transfer again to another further but newer school which I mentioned earlier. Reason is because getting into that school is equally difficult as getting into this school as they are fully packed with kids too, due to shortage of Chinese Primary School in this highly Chinese populated area (just imagine we now have JUSCO inside our Taman and coming new GIANT but no Chinese school yet in our area for our kids???)

Kids adjust and adapt to their surrounding pretty quickly and I should not be too worry unecessarily about this matter. Everything seems promising when we went to her orientation today. In fact, this morning QQ’s prayer is finally answered with a surprise finding and I am glad that I did not transfer her to another school. Will post about it next….

  1. I’m sorry but this is absolutely GROSS! How are we supposed to instill good toilet hygiene in children if the schools themselves do not provide proper toilets? You should bring this up to MCA or something and highlight it. I’m sure if this gets to the media, the school toilets will be upgraded in no time! You better watch out for UTI and all. Good luck!

  2. ai..very sad. Am very surprised the parents in PIBG didn’t think toilets need much improvement!

Mebbe u can work with PIBG on this?

  3. Ask PIBG to upgrade the toilet?
That was what happen to JL’s school..

  4. Omg that is really a bad condition!!! I think u should complain to local authority

  5. I agree! u get on board in PIBG. U have/ can make the time, and definitely have the guts. U go girl!

  6. How on earth can the PIBG and parents think that academic excellence is of greater importance than basic personal hygiene?? Is this the moral behaviour we’re trying to impart to our children? big sigh… We try so hard to instill good personal hygiene habits to our children at home but when they’re out in school or in the public, they don’t often see what they’re being taught at home. So sad, huh.

  7. Really culture shock lah. If there r better squat toilets elsewhere, but rather dark, maybe let her bring along a torch light, those that u can hang ard the neck?

  8. This is really sad. I came from a small kampung school and 20 years back, we still had better toilets than this.

  9. *vomit out yesterday’s dinner*

Shit man.. I bet the children in this school has UTI.. all holding their pee to reach home to pee.

  10. [...] Big girl in deed. (And no, her school doesn’t have the horrendous toilet mentioned here, they have squatting toilets which are pretty clean) She doesn’t know anyone in her class, [...]

  11. That’s really sucksss…. i guess my gal will reject to pee if in this kind of toilet condition.

Agreed with Dinah, you better watch out on UTI!!!

  12. Aiyo, this is so terrible, like so backwards. I can’t believe what I see if it was not on your blog. And I was complaining about the filthiness of my kids’ school toilets. This certainly beats it!

Stench and dirty school toilets were a norm 30 years ago and I can’t believe it still is happening. Sad….
