Eating out becomes very expensive

Our window shopping becomes more and more expensive now. Although we do not buy clothes or anything each time we go out, but eating out is surely cannot be avoided.

Hubby and I used to visit fast food restaurant, like Mac D or KFC last time (which requires you to go for fat burning exercise after that! But because of the crowd (with long queue and hard to get a table) plus the boys are also eating with us now, we now switched to healthier meals.

Be it Chinese  or Western, eating in such restaurant always cost a lot more than fast food. And because hubby thinks that it is not worth paying for more than 10bucks just to eat a plate of Nasi Lemak, or Curry Noodle, (which we can easily get at a few ringgits for a plate of good one outside), we always ended up in a Japanese Restaurant. QQ ended up having expensive taste, in her choice of food and restaurant too.

Can you believe this skinny girl is QQ? Picture taken exactly a year ago still with her slim arms? We were at Yuzu, the first time and also the last, hehe…..Why, because this is a very expensive place to dine lar, for a family of 5 to eat in here :(

A new Japanese Restaurant, Hokkaido Ichiba, at The Garden

Saw how much weight she gained in just one year time? Don’t be surprise to know that this girl is super picky with her food and her choice of restaurant. Places with oily smell in the air is totally out for her!

Our favorite place for Japanese food is Pasta Zanmai, because they have this 2-in-1 dish on their special menu. But because we are so bored ordering the same item from the menu each weekend (QQ insisted eating the same dish each time), we try out eating here instead. Haha…guess what, they turned out to be the Zanmai chain as well! But of course with more variety at Hokkaido Ichiba :)

Eating at Din Tai Fung But sometimes we love to switch our taste buds. Of course the first person to reject is QQ. She hates crowded place like this Taiwanese restaurant.

Minced Meat Noodle Noodle that only looks very nice, but in actual, the taste fails miserably compare to the Hakka Noodle served by the famous Hakka Restaurant at Jalan Kia Peng, KL :(

All the food we ordered so “not-nice” until all my kids refuse to eat.  Or we ordered the wrong thing? QQ only ate the fried wan tan and some fried pumpkin in the end :(

At least they have something that taste quite good…..

The only thing I like about this restaurant is that they have good complete set kids cutlery. Very baby friendly, but something happened to Didi. His skin was snapped into the plastic snap…*YUKKK*.

He was so moody that day and was stubbornly snapping the Ikea Chair Safety belt although I warned him many times not to. So when I saw piece of his skin got snapped into the plastic snap, I got panic and SCREAM at the top of my lung right there, scolding him like a mad woman! (as I had not recovered from the trauma the night before when I witness the young boy  who got his hand stuck into Jusco’s escalator)

Fire Engine - Kids meal at Sakae Sushi

Sushi King is one of the Japanese restaurant that we would like to avoid. Although cheaper than other Japanese restaurant in the mall, they do not have good quality control on their dish. Sushi King is crossed out from my list because they once served me black burnt grilled salmon, not once but twice when I asked for a change.

Aeroplane - Kids meal at Sakae Sushi

Sakae Sushi is slightly better, I would say. Love the presentation of their kid’s meal!

But still taste is a little bit out because many dishes served here has been localized. Although it is suppose to be more economical eating here compare to “classier” Japanese restaurants out there, somehow our bill always ended up so much higher when we eat here.

You know why?  Blame it to the sushi conveyor belt that is easily within reach from my kids.

From a pair of super-saving oriented eating-out couple (we both even have the habit not to order any drinks whenever we dine out in the past), eating “healthily” out now has becoming a super duper expensive affair for us since we have additional 3 kids and a maid to feed wherever we go.

  1. Wah dining at Japanese restaurant, expensive ler. But even fast food is not that cheap nowadays.

  2. Hey, we are still practicing this no-order-drinks when we dine out. Sometimes we’ll just order one and share… that’s how kiam-siap we are haha. We feel that it’s so not worth it as it can sometimes be more expensive than the main meal!

  3. How about eating at a local coffee shops? I think each will comes to about RM5 the most for a plate of fried noddle or noodle soup or rice?

We also never order drinks. haha….kiam siap just like Chloe’s mummy. We normally keep a bottle of plain water and after eating, we will drink in the car.

  4. Ha ha….most of the time, I’m on a “no drinks or just plain water” policy. Drinks of often wayyyyyy overpriced. I’m somehow ok to spend on food (thinking of the amt of time spent on food preparation) but drinks really not worth it.

  5. Wow! Very nice kids meal in sakae sushi

  6. yeah..it’s not cheap definitely!! Eh go for TGIF those place lah, kids eat for free ;)

  7. I agree with you. Eating out these days is expensive. Even with me and Philip at Paparich or Station1..consider not so expensive environment..I still considered them expensive :(

  8. Don’t take your maid out - can really save a lot. We stopped bringing our maid out and it made such a big difference to the bill. Also, I’ll order 2 meals to be shared between myself and the 3 boys :)

  9. so u still want no.4 anot?? LOL
i also like pastazanmai combo meal…very tasty food too!!

  10. Ya lor, samo hv to feed the maid.

  11. shan leo & QQ can shake hands! shan leo loves japanese food too. so, when we go out, it is either japanese food or chili’s. i love pasta zamai too. usually, we will share the meals instead of ordering 1 plate each for the boys.

  12. Hi Chin Nee, agree with you, it’s very expensive!
It seems that your family love Japanese food, mine too :)

Nowadays kids are very lucky hor, in our time where got such great food to eat.

  13. We hardly eat out at these “expensive” restaurants. Normally it’s just the neighbourhood kopitiam or Chinese tai chau. Unless we happen to be in the malls then no choice la. But then again, we also hardly go to the malls :-)

  14. yeah.. if your boys are manageable.. leave maid at home. can you imagine yr maid.. eating at japs ? i remember MIL’s maid - we took her for a raya treat at a jap rest at Seremban2. She didn’t enjoy at all and made a big fuss over the ramen which she claims was spicy altho just v little chilly oil added

  15. kids can change 180degrees.. look at QQ now.. i guess it must be your yummy cooking which whets her appetite too

  16. yeah.. if you include maid.. lagi mahal.. imagine yr maid eating japs ? if yr boys are manageable, dun need to bring her out.
