Curious Kids Need to be Tough Inside

I read everything about breastfeeding and get myself ready mentally ever since I got pregnant with QQ, my first girl. Knowing the benefits of breastfeeding, I pushed myself to breastfeed her since birth and I manage to breastfeed her fully until she reached 10 month old.

Breastfeeding twin boys at 3 months old

Realizing the health benefits (as QQ seldom fall sick in school as compare to her peers) and convenience of breastfeeding, I forced myself to breastfeed my twin boys although I was totally dry during my confinement. It was not an easy journey to breastfeed 2 frequent crying boys who refuse milk bottle in their early days.

Boys at 18 months, still on breastmilk

Until today, 18 months, they are still on breastmilk. I think I have done my best for them to boost their immune system. Thank goodness they now can chew and eat all kinds of food. Everyday we will try to cook porridge with all kinds of vegetable and meat to make sure that they get a balance diet through solid.

We often hear cases of spreading virus is happening so frequently. Although I strongly believe that they have got the best nutrient and DHA from mother’s milk, we also supplement them with multivitamin and fruits, hoping that make them tough inside, especially at this curious stage of their growing years.

Unlike 5 years back, it is so good to see that more and more mothers are encouraged to breastfeed their little one.

Eating at Jonker Street, Melaka

Kedai Kopi Teck Wah Heng (another quieter part of Jonker Street)

When I was schooling, this used to be one of my favourite shop for breakfast. I have not visited this place, I think for more than 5 years.

Yummy soft pork slice coated with flour

This shop is famous for their soft pork slice (flour coated) cook in Bakuteh’s soup. Instead of serving with claypot, the dish is served individually with yam rice. You can opt for just pork slice or have your soup mix with intestines. Per serving is Rm5 (they add your bakuteh soup generously when you ask for soup refill) and each bowl yam rice is Rm1. Although it is crowded, I see that most patrons are local (good that it’s not discovered yet…*nyek…nyek…nyek*)

Inner garden of Hotel Puri

After breakfast we send the boys home and put them to sleep. Once they were knocked off, we continue our food hunt at Jonker Street (ok, we are not that *tong chiak* actually, just that by then it was noon already so it is time for lunch again). Since it was a Public Holiday, Jonker Street was very crowded. Not wanting to look for a side parking at the roadside, we went to a paying parking lot and walked to Hotel Puri (since QQ wanted to see where Yue Niang lives - place where Little Nyonya drama series was filmed).

It is really a beautiful hotel comprise of 3 long houses where the middle house was demolished and converted into an open air garden / restaurant.

It was extremely hot. A good time for a icy cold cendol. I heard from my brother that cendol and laksa from Jonker 88 is good (hmm..don’t remember this place existed during my schooling day so they must be new). This shop has the most crowd in jonker street (sorry, there will not be anyone to serve you, so you can see people queuing under the hot sun, waiting for their turn to carry their cendol/laksa into the shop themselves) so hubby had to queue while QQ and I squeezed into the extremely narrow shop to seek for a seat (you need to come in a Gang so someone queue while some go wait for table).

Crazy or not the crowds inside Jonker 88 Cendol Shop

I tell you, it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a table! There were already so many people standing at each table waiting so I decided to just tapau the cendol and eat else where. Forget about the laksa….

Opposite the shop along the extremely crowded walk way

And the above was where we stop by and eat our Cendol. So pityful eh??? Normal Cendol is Rm2 and Durian Cendol is Rm3. Well, worth it because the cendol is really nice. Even my proud-to-admit hubby also agreed!

After trying out some nice shirts opposite the shop (too bad I was too large that none fit nicely into me), my handphone rang and mum called me saying that the boys were awake. We quickly walked to our car and drove back to Ujong Pasir to eat at our favourite place instead (check out later this another crowded place situated a bit out of tourist area, but luckily not discovered yet by tourist, hehehe….)

Christmas Lightings at Portugis Settlement, Melaka

Since it is Christmas Eve, and my mum’s house is a bridge across the famous Portugis Settlement, we decided not to drive out anymore that evening, just in case we got stuck outside, not able to go drive home that night. After dinner, together with my mother, we walked to the Portugis Settlement to see their famous once-a-year brightly lit up Christmas light.

Unlike many years ago, now most of the homes are locked. Therefore visitors can only see from the gate. But this year, there was one house that opens their gate to welcome admiring visitors. Not bad huh my pictures from my lousy camera..

Close up on the birth of Jesus (if  am not mistaken)

Another beautiful lit up bungalow (sorry I had to include this man with his daughter as it was almost impossible to catch a good picture without any heads).

It was so hot and packed as some silly drivers still wanting to drive squeeze into those narrow roads on this special day. However not many houses were lighted up compare to previous year (we all guess it is due to the bad economy situation?)

By 10pm, we already went home. Later it became very crowded as we can see many cars passing by our house looking for a place to park. Approached midnight, there were lots of firecrackers and fireworks. Even a Christmas in Melaka is even merrier than a Chinese New Year in Kuantan (hubby’s hometown). How I miss celebrating Chinese New Year Eve in Melaka (no more chance after getting married :( ….

Best Popiah at Jalan Bunga Raya, Melaka

..continue from eating in Seremban….

This year hubby took a day leave so we can go back to Melaka a day earlier to witness the Christmas Eve celebration at Portugis Settlement Melaka, which is just a few steps away from my mum’s house. Since we did not have lunch, we just went out to the town to see if we can stop by to grab anything light. Suddenly the famous Popiah came to my mind and we decided to stop by Jalan Bunga Raya for Melaka most famous Popiah which has been selling for generations.

I just realised that it has been more than 10 years since I visited this stall. How time flies….

Yummy Popiah ladden with sinful lard crisp and oil

…..*yum…yum….really super super yummy*!!! Best Popiah I have tasted !

Crazy local crowd could be seen at the stall daily

Location: Jln Bunga Raya (by the roadside, right in front of Mdm.King’s Departmental Store - where I used to work part timely as a clerk after my SPR)

I think patrons who stop by the heavy traffic road to *tapau* the popiah are all locals since there is no place to sit. Cannot imagine how the crowd would look like if this hawker stall is discovered by people who travels to all the way down to Melaka to eat! Although this is just a small stall by the road side, the hawker is smart enough to use a card numbering system.

We had to wait around 20mins (all of us inside the car and we witness a snatch incident just right beside our car (where a guy from a bike came down to snatch a thick golden necklace of an Indian women who was just standing next to my car drinking herbal tea from another hawker nearby). My maid and I who were with the kids in the car were too surprised and too shaken to even notice the bike plate number that was just stopping right in front of our car…*phiew* Thank God the fella did not make an attempt to snatch our car instead!

Dim Sum at Min Kok, Seremban

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

This round back to Melaka, I planned another eating trip for us all. Instead of having breakfast before depart, this time we departed earlier so that we can stop at Seremban to enjoy some of their famous local delicacies. Thanks to direction and a proper drawn map from Chin Lee, we stopped at Restaurant Min Kok, Seremban to try the most famous Dim Sum at Seremban.

Wu Kok and Lo Mai Kai

Steam Scallop Dim Sum

According to Chin Lee, this huge restaurant is very crowded on weekends and patrons are required to take queue number.

Location: Restaurant Min  Kok, Seremban (near to Era Square, nearby Terminal 2)
Overall Taste: 8/10
Price: Not cheap but reasonable for price of an air-con restaurant, plus good taste dim sum served

Although the food taste quite good, unfortunately the boys were not feeling well and were extremely cranky. One by one of them even pooped at the restaurant (they were only wearing cotton pants) and Korkor even had some of his *peanut butter* dropping trailed on the floor when I ran him to the toilet :(

Since we had to run to and fro to the toilet, one after another boy, and hubby rushing in and out to the car to fetch water, pants for boys, we lost mood to enjoy the food. After *gulping* all food ordered, we quickly make a move and rush back to Melaka, hoping to get them to see a paed. We reached Melaka at around 1pm, and then went to Jusco Melaka to wait till 2pm for the reopen of the paed clinic at Pantai melaka (Dr Lim Bi Yu, thanks to recommendation by Li Li).

Next coming up…continue hunting for famous food in Melaka…

Not easy to find a job

23.12.09 / Just info / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (0)

Not very happy with his current job, hubby has been finding for one for quite sometime. Not sure if the economy is still that bad or he is fussy about choosing one, he still could not find something that is suitable. Unlike guess there is not much opportunity for sales job, unlike the abundance of vacancy when you click on IT job search. I hope he finds one soon, so that he could be more happier with a new change in his working environment.

Learning about buy and sell

23.12.09 / Just info / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (1)

My hubby always say that working in employment does not give him that kind of satisfaction compare to running own business. Perhaps he sees that I have lots of leisure running a home business not realizing that with just a part time business like this, there is no way I can earn enough to feed the family like he does. However it is really a good exposure especially for my girl who frequently trail everywhere I go. I hope the kids learn something especially when I see them playing shopping, scanning the products with the toy barcode scanner before packing them up.

Safety should come first

23.12.09 / Just info / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (0)

News of the freak accident where a car landed on an escalator and the recent blast at Melaka Jusco sounds so scary to most of us. Although they have yet to open, the accidents has already caused 2 deaths so far. If only the contractors and responsible parties are taking precaution and use only safety products, incidents like this could be avoided. Hubby said we shall never step our foot into that Jusco, ever…sigh…

Hope it continue to grow

23.12.09 / Just info / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (0)

I learn lots of thing about online business when I start up Mama Patch. Although everything is done with my passion and interest, I still need to spend lots of time to plan for my products while maintaining the daily operation. I hope Mama Patch will continue to grow and if it does, I would have to engage the call center services to manage it for me so I will still be able to stay at home running it while keeping an eye at the kids.

Another Picture Book for QQ

I told QQ, this will be a present for her and she is going to keep this album properly so that she could show it to her children in future.

This is actually her 2nd picture book. First book was a coffee table book printed with Pixart as a present for nanny 2 years ago. It is almost A4 size, and I think quality is quite good. Price is also much cheaper than Photobook.  See her first Pixart book here.

Since everyone is commenting that Photobook has got better quality printing, I grabbed their 40% promotion (which last till 31Dec 2009) and printed another square book.  I love it!  See more at my Facebook

p/s: you must be wonder why I did not do one for the boys…hahaha…save money mah…since they are only 1+. Will wait till they are older, so I will just do a First 5 Years book for each of them later!

Christmas mood

20.12.09 / Parenting, QQ, Twins / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (8)

Although we do not celebrate Christmas, I love the feel of the magical feeling of this season. Just like every year, we went to some major shopping malls in town to see the Christmas decor few weeks back and I must say that Pavillion has the best decoration as compare to 1Utama, Mid Valley.

The best attraction is the 8pm fake snow fall in front of the entrance (facing Bukit Bintang). QQ was so happily playing out there catching the fake snow with me while hubby keep the boys inside the mall (he is afraid of those chemical/soap bubbles dropping on the boys).

It was really crowded a few weekends back, and I think this weekend will be even more crowded since this will be the last shopping week for those who celebrates Christmas!

Poor boys who had to stay indoor. The boys were carried on sling until recently. At least now they are willing to sit in their twin stroller now, after keeping them for more than a year (ahem, not very matching hor their red and blue outfit, hahaha!)

Funny conversation between the boys

18.12.09 / Parenting, Twins / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (11)

At 18 months now, I love to see my boys playing (minus the presence of their rough playing sister). It is more exciting parenting twins especially when they start to converse between themselves.

(Showing a red dog soft toy to his brother) Korkor: “Di di! Wow…wow”
(Got frightened out of sudden, Didi took a blanket and throw on the doggie) Didi: “Kakak! Wow…wow…mei..mei” (kakak, look, the doggie is pretty)

(Didi stuck in between 2 beds while trying to jump down from bed) Didi: “Korkor! Pau..pau” (asking to be carried down from the bed)
(Korkor ran over to hold Didi’s hand) Korkor: “Didi!….POM! POM!” (warning that he will fall if he jumps!)

I went to London Weight Management!

14.12.09 / Parenting / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (13)

This is the 2nd time I grab a free-trial on the slimming program and last weekend, and this time at London Weight Management.

It was a Saturday and I am supposed to be there for 3 hours. After putting the kids to sleep, I thought I could sneak out easily. Unfortunately, QQ refuse to let me go, so I let her tagged along (while I kept scolding her inside the car until the outlet at The Mines).

Since we were already late (negotiating with her at home), we reached late. Finding a parking wasn’t easy on weekends,  then we had to lined up at Mc Donald to buy her a lunch, I was so burning furious to find out the line we waited was a pick-up line! Not wanting to queue again, we went to KFC, but too bad, very long queue too. Not wanting to waste more time (since I leave the boys at home), I dragged her straight to the slimming centre, and asked one of the consultants there to go buy for me.

Just like Mayfair I visited sometime back, my first free trial at London Weight Management consists of
(1) A one-on-one consultation -40 mins
(2) Body analysis -20 mins
(3) 1 customised London Full Body Slimming Treatment- 2hours

Unlike Mayfair, I like them as they do not hard sell. After the first 2 parts is done, they start treatment on me. So what do you think they do in slimming program?

First: Steam sauna (10mins ) -to force the body sweat out the excess salt and toxins and thereby reduced a great deal of your water weight. I was lead into single room, and QQ had to wait at the dressing area. Although first few minutes were rather relaxing, I find it so boring and can’t wait to get out from the steaming room. So hot! I almost dying inside.

Second: Dead sea salt scrub 5 mins and Hot blanket wrap (20mins)

I had to lie on a bed and the consultant scrub dead sea salt all over my body, meaning you have to remove all your clothes, wearing only a disposable panty provided. Why sea salt? ( Sea salt is applying it on skin also increases our metabolism rate so more fat will be burn in the process). After that I was lightly wrapped with a plastic and then covered with a hot blanket for 20 minutes. This part was the most unbearable. Same goes for slimming treatment at Mayfair. I almost lost consciousness until I had to keep on asking QQ to blow some cool air on my face!

Third: Using machine with vibrating pads (30 mins) -vibrating pads to raise your metabolism and suggest special massages for inch and weight-loss for specific areas of your body. This was the most relaxing part of the whole session and I kept asking QQ to increase the speed!

Result: Loss of 300g and 5.4cm (total up from many areas from the body like arms, waist, thights, buttock). Although I believe it is more to lost of water from the body than the weight.

So, although I wish to get rid of my 5-month-look tummy, do you think I signed up? No, I don’t. With the tortured in that 2 hours, I rather die. I would rather cut down my calorie (eat less rice and white bread), do some simple tummy exercise, or have the urut makcik (malay massage lady) to come over weekly to help me rub down the stubborn fats.

What a torture session through such slimming program!

More relax on weekdays

10.12.09 / Parenting, Twins / Author: chinneeq / Comments: (17)

After so much of complain on everything under the sun, I still prefer weekdays to weekends. Know why? Because on weekdays, at least I am the boss at home. When I get stressed, I just dissappear and Kakak will take over the kids. But with an extra person at home on weekends, there is a lot of nagging in the air by the old man. Chores can’t be done, kids seems disoriented, mistakes and mishaps happens even more frequently, and lastly I can’t breathe.

I get so stressed up again recently, when didi stop eating again (he just will not take a bite on anything, except junk food). Remember how happy I was with the success of swallowing raw fenugreek seeds? Too bad, my body is just to smart being tricked. It stops producing milk after first few days. Then I lost an overly costly parcel from US, which not only cost me LOTS of money, but also delays of ring slings delivery to my customers.

After the birth of the boys,  there is lots of moment when I regret being a SAHM. I notice my boys does not eat well or grow well with my presence. Once in a while, when I am out from home, they are really ok with the maid. They eat well and sleep well. Although I can sneak out once in a while, I cannot leave them alone with the maid too frequently, it is just too risky (after some stupid incidents on what she did to the kids)….SIGH….
