Ability to *Greet*

06.11.09 / Parenting, Pre-school, QQ / Author: chinneeq

We usually hear, “Uncle, Aunty”, greeted by your friend’s children.
“Dear, quick, say hello to Uncle, Aunty!“. But my girl would usually just keep her mouth close and shy away.

Familiar to the above scene? That’s what happened to QQ and it lasted for as long as four years. No matter how much I ask her to greet my friends or relatives, she will just stare at me blankly, as if cannot understand what I am talking about. Worst till, I was even blamed by my in-laws that I did not teach my girl manners!

Early this year in her Kindergarden’s teachers-parents meet, all her teachers told me that she would just not open mouth, no matter what question was posed to her. I was so upset and tension. Must really make appointment and go relax at my facial treatment, enjoying facial and eye massage with theirbest eye cream again!

It was only until recently QQ starting to open her golden mouth to greet people whenever I ask her to. After 4.5 years of waiting!! Can you believe how relief I was? ….*phiew*….

One of her ex-teacher said some children just need take so much of time to warm up themselves. So, if you have a child who is like QQ, try stay calm, k.  And tomorrow will be QQ’s school concert at KLCC theater and I cannot believe how quickly my little baby girl is going to be in the final year in her kindergarden next year!

Chin Nee,
Every kids are different. As mummy of course we kan cheong. But kids need mummy n daddy’s acceptance regardless of how they are. Slowly she will open up.. now u already seeing it..

Millie // November 6th, 2009 - 11:45 pm

I’m also kan cheong. My husband seems so cool. Most of my friends’ kids will just salam us without being told to. My kids, I have to remind them EVERY time. QQ is like Amsyar before. Ermm sometimes Amsyar still doesnt answer questions..! He will shyly look at me, as if expecting me to answer on his behalf. And sometimes he answers without looking at the person’s face. Shy, but I’m just afraid he’ll get used to it..

michelle // November 7th, 2009 - 12:11 am

Mine only greet if she feels like it.

anggie // November 9th, 2009 - 10:22 am

My boy only great with those he like and when he had mood, other wise he just run away … he is not shy .. he just hv his mood on greeting … :(

QQ looked so grown up in this sarong, like a teenager. My Alycia was a little like QQ last time and I thought she had selective mutism. Now, she’s really chatty, though would still be shy in certain situations.

mumsgather // November 9th, 2009 - 11:12 am

Mine is the same lah. She won’t greet. She’s very shy. She’ll say can I just say “Hello” or Can I just smile. I guess its because greeting draws all attention to her which makes her self concious so I just let her be even tho relatives think I have bad mannered kids. Haha. I won’t push the kids to do something they are uncomfortable doing.

slavemom // November 9th, 2009 - 6:50 pm

Wah wah… this lil nyonya so pretty. ;)

pei wei // November 9th, 2009 - 9:32 pm

hey same case to my gal too. she doesnt like to ‘entertain’ the younger ppl. but if she sees any old folks, she will be happy to greet them and will say whatever i ask her to say to the old folks eg how r u, sik pao mei :) to my cousin sis, soli lah, she doesn’t even want to look at them sometimes!

QQ is so pretty with that sarong! so fast gonna finish her kindi oredi.

Hanz // November 10th, 2009 - 12:47 pm

oh..a relief to me after reading this..same goes with Hanafi, he’s very slow to warm-up…think his lil brother would be better in this & even now he’s showing his charm all over, stranger or not…well, my boys are totally 2 different person & am worry less..coz don want to get headache over this..he,he..
