Long waited Pearl of Orient
With my 2 super difficult to care boys tagging along, not sure if I should label our next trip as another vacation or war. Yes, we are going to the Pearl of Orient, end of November. Finally, after waiting for soooo many years for the boys to grow up a bit. We are going there for no other reason than to EAT, especially at Tambun (which I have not been to until today).
Actually I am still in doubt if we really get to enjoy our food in this trip. At least the boys are old enough to be placed on baby highchairs (provided they have enough sleep and not cranky), given lots of cutleries, bowls and tiny bits of food to mess with, and food arrive quick enough to let us gobble down before they start screaming, wanting to climb of the high chairs again.
Food/places I MUST eat:
- Chee Cheong Fun at Genting Coffeeshop (pretty crowded and hot place right?Any place I can go with similar taste ah?
- Night Yong Tau Foo by the tricycle uncle (if you know where is this place, pls let me know coz I forgot the name of the street)
- Tambun (which restaurant? I googled and saw Gee Seng, Prawn Village or Floating Paradise. Pls share with me k)
Things MUST buy:
- Fresh nutmeg (does all wet market there has this?)
Oh yes, we will also be stopping by Ipoh to eat, most probably going to try the famous Bean Sprout Chicken, hoping to meet up with some blogging friends.
I am getting so excited about this trip and now daily checking about places which I want to go. Just hope that we will not get tummy upset by eating out throughout the trip like this although we are covered by the low cost health insurance.

Have loads of fun. I’m sure it would be. I myself haven’t been to Penang since Bryan was born. Each time one kid grows up, I have another newborn LOL.

Enjoy Penang!
hi Chin Nee, give me a call and I may be able to propose few makan places for u…
Welcome to penang ya!!!
hmm, look like it will be a well planned trip for “makan-makan”.
Anyway hope you & your family enjoy the trip.
looks like fun. the last time we went to penang was short trip. stayed only a night. so not much enjoyment. the few times that we’ve been there these couple of years, we still haf not taken the chendol .. can u believe that. sigh! miss that the most but forgotten with street and too lazy to get stuck in the jam. its quite jam there you know. anyways enjoy ur trip!!!
Chee Cheong Fun at Genting - NO, no place like that! It’s Lucas’ and my favourite stall
Tambun - It’s VERY commercialized and sleepy now but the last time we went, we headed for the least flashy, bright light, tourist-y looking one.
Fresh nutmeg - Head for Komtar and look for Chowrasta Bazaar where you can find many shops selling them. Can get nice tambun biscuits too. Ask to try samples until you find the one you lik
And you MUST try the chendol a few lanes away. Just ask the Chowrasta people and they will ALL point you in the right direction LOL
How come your makan food list all zig-zag one??? Anyway, sounds Lee Lein knows a few good spots too. Enjoy!
We’re also going to Penang end of this Nov. Last Dec when we were there, couldn’t explore makan place much. Partly don’t know the places and my gal was just 6 mths old then. Have to be carried around. This time round, she would be able to run around at least (come to think of it, won’t that be more havoc for me to run after her??) Anyway, I can’t wait for my “vacation” too. Btw, where will u be staying? Perhaps can meet up there?
I usually go Prawn Village in Tambun. We change once but the food ok only. Nutmeg drink can be bought either in balik pulau or shops near Botanica Garden.
You should also try assam laksa near the Kek Lok Si temple and cendol at Penang Rd.
I love Penang cos of the yummy food!! Think also hungry already
Few things that your mustn’t miss are coconut drink, roasted chicken wings/drumsticks, Penang pancakes topped with pork floss/banana/seafood/coconut… ahh, don’t forget the Hokkien Noodle with additional big prawns.
Yippie! A hol coming up! When travelling with small chilren, don’t be too ambitious - want to cover too many plcs/do too many things. If u got the right expectation, it’d be a great hol. Hv fun!
ooo..Enjoy your holiday!
hooray!!! makan trip…i like!!! have a great one
