Experience of feeding 3

Guess what I did yesterday? After breastfeeding my boys by letting them latch directly on me for more than a year, I started pumping again yesterday. No, the milk isn’t for the boys, but for a friend’s premature baby who is still in ICU. Born at only 33 weeks, the baby is still on tube.

Not wanting to pump in between feed (to avoid contamination from my boy’s saliva), I woke up to pump before they woke up. To my surprise, I could get only 1 oz yesterday morning when I pumped. Aiyo…don’t tell me they have been surviving only with this amount of milk all these while? No wonder they are so underweight! !

I hope my dear friend will have very strong will and persistant to breastfeed her premature baby this time as she gave up breastfeeding her 3 older girls previously. (She is now at the Dr Koe - lactation consultant’s clinic seeking for help to get the milk out of her engorged breasts).

  1. that’s very motherly of you. Hope your bm, nomatter how little, will feed n nourish the little baby.

  2. Aaawww…..how nice of you. Hope your friend are doing fine soon and the baby be a healthy one.

  3. That’s really very noble and thoughtful of you.

  4. That’s a great thing for you to do. I understand the feeling of the mother for not getting the breastmilk. I was at the same position when Baby Aerynn needed bm when she was in the phototherapy. I couldn’t even pumped up to 1 oz and it was filled with blood from my sore nipples….haiiii.

For your info, sometimes I only could express up to 2 oz after I woke up. To make it worse, bb is rejecting bottle feeding :( .

  5. oh dear. so sorry to hear about your friend’s baby….hope the baby will be out from ICU soon. chin nee, you are doing a good deed!

  6. You are really great to do that for your friend.

And pumping is usually less than sucking directly, so don’t worry that your boys are not getting enough

  7. You are so kind. God bless you and may He grants your friend the strength and patience too…

  8. good job my dear! hopefully the mother will be able to get much help from the lactation consultant.. I am visiting Dr Koe since she is also the paed for Breanna..

  9. so nice of you! hope your fren’s baby is ok

  10. so kind of u.. hope ur fren’s bb will be healthy and well soon!

  11. I also donated my BM last time to another blogging mommy as hers was depleting. What I do was, I pumped at night. While I feed Darrius on one side, I hold my manual pump on the other and the yield was quite good. I can get 4oz that way.

Maybe you can try and tell me if that works. :)

  12. Very supportive of you; bravo! Hope your friend’s baby will be ok.
