Polluted tastebud

It is so difficult to feed the boys these days. Unlike my first child, I am not particular strict on their diet anymore. in fact, I think I have polluted their taste bud by feeding them a lot of  ‘tasty food’ from my plate.

Korkor’s Eating Habit

When the  boys were younger, Korkor used to be an easy eater and he can just swallow very quickly when we feed him porridge. Whenever he sees me eating, he will just come over to me and ask for some.

Now is the other way round. Korkor becomes a very fussy eater and he spits out his porridge most of the time. He is also getting more and more “herbivor” and cannot tolerate anything with fishy (all expensive ingredients like fish, scallops, dried mussels). However he likes all the food from my palate (salty. sweet, and even cold ice-creams!) Too spoilt for tasty food until he dislike his porridge?

Didi’s Eating Habit

On the other hand, it is getting easier to feed Didi nowadays. Although he loves keeping food in his mouth, he can accept more variety of food taste and not too choosy. However the kids are smart too, as they prefer food from my plate rather than their plain porridge.

Is it a good time for soft rice feeding at 11 months?

I wonder if it is the right time to feed them rice since they got only a few front teeth to chew? I am more worry about indigestion, if they swallow the rice instead.

Boy, they are growing so fast. I have not even started on any savings or investment in the Outer Banks rentals for the boys until today.

  1. Chin Nee, I still feed thick watery porridge to baby Hambali despite his 8 teeth has emerged. But, I think once he’s 1 year old, I will start feeding him finely chopped food & mashed one. About soft rice we do feed him that if that happen when we’re eating one. He likes to be feed adult food-lah!

  2. Same same lah. when my brat was younger, less tthan one minute, all milk habis. Now have to wait 30 mins, still sucking!

He somehow dont like rice so much (2yrs) but loves chicken & kuay teow.

  3. try noodle. meehoon/kuay teow/corn kind of pasta in soup. and remember observe their poo-poo. stop if indigested.

  4. same case here. feeding is like a war now. u can try mee suah, very soft after u steam it with water for 3-4min. but must throw away the water after steaming as mee suah is pretty salty. i used to rinse it with cooked water b4 feeding, to reduce the salty taste. serve it with puree of chic/pork + puree of green vege. add some olive oil. better to have some soup too, else it’ll be quick dry.

  5. I think should be alright to feed them rice now provided the rice is soft and just feed them very little per spoon. Shannen started to chew rice even with only one teeth. What to do? she is too ‘tong chiak’.

  6. i would say my parents polluted philip’s tastebud. that why now, he is a street boy. apa-macam also eat.

i guess for ur case.. just hv to try different food n see what they like lo.

  7. shan rae also like that leh!!! he only wants what is on our plates!!! his own food, he will only take a few & then start spitting everything out!!! *shake head*

  8. at some point, i think every kid will show this symptom of finding the porridge yucky!! it’s pretty normal as the taste bud do get bored with the same food after sometime!! that’s why my mom started feeding my boys soft rice with soup at 11-12 months too!!
just make sure that the rice r a lot softer at the beginning & feed a little at a time!!

  9. Have to try tastier food (but not from seasoning) for korkor already.

  10. LOL… i think you have spoilt their taste buds.. hehehe.. What do you prefer instead? plain porridge or tasty food from your plate.. hehehehehe

  11. My girl started eating plain rice at age 6 months old. No kidding. She refuse all type of “semi-solid” foods. We tried everything. We have no choice.. She prefers it that way. Still do. In fact, chewing rice improved language skills. Your little ones has ” high class” taste buds already. Mine just rice and soup. No meat please she says.

  12. At 1 yo, shld be ok to eat soft rice kua. Jes cook with more water n c how they like it. Then u’ll hv less headache when it comes to meal times.
