Another trial with the buttercream

My cupcake decor turns out better this time, *phiew*…

Cupcakes with fresh butter cream

Next week QQ will celebrate her birthday in school and I am going to bake for her. This would be the first time for my creation to goes out in public, and I hope to make a good impression. At least I want to let my child be proud that her mother could bake, hehe….

I was dissappointed with my first trial. See the “not-so-presentable” cupcakes decor.

As this is only my 2nd trial, with a  main purpose of making a nicer buttercream, I only bake 9 cupcakes, using half the usual buttercake recipe by Agnes Chang. It is also my first time to manually mix and beat the buttercream and the batter of the cake. Really not an easy job, luckily my girl, the maid and I took turns to beat them.

QQ loves it, and upon coming out from oven, 3 were immediately popped into her mouth before I even had a chance to pipe the buttercream on top of them. Lots of photos stored in my sd card right now :)

Crunchy hot directly from the oven

See how contented is my little girl while eating her cupcakes, one after another.

I wanted to bake cupcakes too. I wanted to make those prepacked ones, which is much easier. But then again, I hav to get myself a cup cake mould. I might need ur buttercream recipe soon.

Very nice decorated cupcakes, Chin Nee. Perhaps nicer with a bigger swirl on the cupcake? Let me know if you need any cake decorating items. I don’t use much nowadays…seldom decorate what I bake now…haha. So you already master the art of buttercream? Not so sweet? Where did you get the recipe from?

I’m sure QQ will love them. Sure she is proud to have you as a good mama to bake cakes for her birthday :D .

Ouchh…where’s my comment?? Nice cuppies. Maybe nicer with a bigger swirl on the cupcake? If you need any cake decorating stuff, do let me know. I seldom use mine since I don’t decorate what I bake nowadays…haha. You already master the art of the buttercream…not so sweet?? Which recipe did you use?

I’m sure QQ is sure proud of her mama to bake such nice and yummy cupcakes for her birthday :D.

Wow…cupcakes! One of my favourite. During my wedding time, my mum distributed cupcakes to relatives and friends instead of the normal round shape wedding cake in my hometown. I even kept 2 boxes for my own consumption. hehehe……Get QQ invovled in baking is really a great activity and she is sure proud of you!

wow.. nice.. i still prefer the normal butter cream (though the shape cant hold & last for long) instead of those with added vege shortening which will make the cream texture more rough & not smooth..

gonne eat it asap before the butter cream sink… hahhaaaa…

i find it simple & nice.. bravo!!

very nice cupcakes!

Juliana // May 21st, 2009 - 4:34 pm

what is the reason to beat the buttercream by hand instead of electric beater? just curious :)

Charming // May 23rd, 2009 - 8:02 pm

Check out http://www.wilton.com for buttercream icing recipes using vegetable shortening. The shortening gives the icing a crispy crunch and may also help it melting in the humidity.
