Ways of feeding medicine

De Bumbo Boys: Wow….thanks for all leng lui aunties’ comments and the compliment. Actually this is how we look at home, coz we cry A LOT!!!

Mummy’s turn to talk:

After forcing them to drink their medicine for so long, I must say I have develop some skill in forcing the sweet syrup down their throat. If you think that using syringe is easy, I tell you, they are even smarter than me.

Method 1:

Whenever I pump the medicine into their throat (even though deep on the side of their mouth), they will still cough to spit everything out. Each feeding we have to use so much handkerchiefs and even change their wet shirts. Then I get smarter…..

Method 2:

Using a bigger syringe, I combine all medicine into one syringe so that i only feed one time. Then I’ll poke the syringe into the side of their mouth, leave it inside while I slowly inject the fluid in. Of course they got to swallow it since they could not close their mouth *while crying like mad*….But then they got smarter again……

Method 3:

Seeing the syringe, they TOTALLY don’t even wanna open their mouth anymore. They too became smart and developed new ways to cry. With tears running down, with mouth shut tidely, they go “Mmmmm….mmmm…..mmmmm” (like the picture above). So no way I can poke the syringe into their mouth liao….Damn funny!!!

  1. i remember jesse was also like dat wen she was a baby… cant feed her med…after forcing she cried then puke… so stressful but after shes better after 1.5 yrs

  2. i just paksa. no other way. or hide it in their water/milk.

  3. ya loh, me also jus paksa. sigh.

  4. babies are so smart nowadays! luckily both shan leo & shan rae have no problem with taking their medicines. but timing have to be right. if we feed shan rae when he is tired, he will cry, and cry… for those who dunno head & tail, they thot we torture him! *hehe*

  5. now that’s a problem…hope you find another solution on how to let them take medicines without any fuss.

how are you? i haven’t been here in such a long time…the twins have grown much and QQ is such a sweet sister. i love you header.

  6. I will force them to take too!

Me standby the syringe while MIL carry them in lying position and open their mouth, and I pump in side of mouth…with quick speed of course!!

  7. sometimes cannot force in too much too,as they will get chocked especially when in lying position…so kesian….

  8. yaler…..so kesian la your cuties…..have to endure so much medicine, actually i’m puzzled too coz they r fully on breast milk…..
how come sick so often ??!!

  9. Have you tried using a spoon? Sometimes I’m so desperate until I coat my finger with meds and let him suck from there.

  10. So smart ehh. You are right, you force later they vomit everything.

  11. Yeah baby nowadays r very smart. But I noticed it’s easier to feed when they are hungry coz for sure they will open their mouth when crying for milk.

  12. normally i pump the medicine to the side of the mouth, at least less stimulating than pumping directly to throat.

  13. ya loh.. I had that problem too.. now that my son is a toddler, he some more can use hands to block the syringe!

  14. My Baby C is just like that. She will purse her lips real tight, then turn her head from left to right to avoid the syringe. I can never use the forcing method coz my baby will SURELY puke big time. Lagi heartache! I wish my nightmare will end soon!!

  15. Ryan still small. So, still can pump when he opens his mouth. Normally I will pump small amount each time and let him swallow. So far, thank God, no puking. Dread to think what I will have to go through when he gets older. …sigh

  16. HAHAHAHAHA..so cute!

HAHAHAH to sting’s comment…same same! Now, no.3 will use his hands to block me!! So clever these babies nowadays!!!!

That’s why one time I had to SIT on the poor fler…. kempit his hands so that they cannot block me!!! WAKAKAKAAKAKAKAKAKAAKAKAKAKA

  17. wah…bukan main difficult hor to feed them. until got to sit on out poor child ah?? Hahaha!! *laughing at mott’s comment*…so, any mums out there got better solution or not??

  18. aiyo..this is one thing that i really hate to do. so stressful to feed the meds. I normally hide ashley’s into her milk but then as grew older, the meds are more bitter so in the end she even refused the milk :(

  19. Aiyoh, the expression banyak kesian. And so clever to avoid the medicine.

The Method 2 sound like a horrible taste. I myself also cannot tahan, what more the little ones. I also forcefeed, but dilute with water first and pump small amount with lots of fanfare and cheering in between their swallows. And if they’re not very sick, I don’t even give them medicine so that their immune system gets stronger. I’ve more trouble with sucking out mucus from their nose. That’s when 3 adults are needed to hold the head, arms and body still. I’ve been through the body straddling part too.

  20. yes it is a problem!! I have prob with Vyktore too…

  21. Haha, if you never write them in words, we didn’t know the boy refuse to open their mouth. Really cute.

  22. so far I have no problem feeding my girl medicine, she will let me pump them in with syringe, but with my boy I had to force like other mums said, had to lock up their hands and body then only pumped in the medicine to the side of the mouth. But since he was 2y+, he knows that medicine will help him to get well, so he will guai guai let me feed him.

maybe if the time is suitable, you can try to feed them when they are sleeping, pump in to the side of the mouth and make sure they swallow it!

  23. actually the correct way of feeding them is, poke the syringe into the side of their mouth.

my boy will use his tongue to push the medicine out. hahaha

  24. I rem I had a hard time feeding the boys medicine when they were younger too. Until my helper came aboard & giving them medicine is not tough anymore. She just has her way to get over the feeding. I have to kudos to her on that !!

  25. Erm… my MIL will open my boy’s mouth by holding on two his two cheeks then use the syringe to pump in the meds. Then quickly pinch his nose for about 1-2 seconds and the meds went down! :P That was when he’s few months old.

As for now, he could struggle, turn his face away or use his hand to pull away the syringe! So, need two person to feed him the meds. One person to pump and pinch his nose and another person to hold him down from struggling :P
