Dental treatment for maid
A week ago, my maid complained on tooth pain. Since she told me she has not been to a dental before, can you imagine how bad and horrible her teeth condition is (as her breathe stinks too!). Told hubby we must bring her to visit a dentist at least to clean her teeth.
Know what was the dentist finding at the clinic? Gosh, she has one rotten tooth that has to be extracted and 4 other teeth with very bad holes that has to be filled. All her gums are fulled with plaque!
*Yukkss**
The doctor even charged us special fee, RM120 for cleaning her teeth (I think she overcharged
), and another Rm80 for the extraction of her rotten tooth. Since total is already RM200, we just had to leave the teeth with holes for the time being.
**beh tahan the expensive bill liao**
Expensive isn’t it? Like it or not, we have to fork the money out to do it for her. Otherwise it will be hell living for us and worst till, our the poor babies to smell her foul breathe and smelly rotten tooth.
**shudder**

how about telling her that she will have to pay half the medical bills ? maybe the pain is killing her and she might be happy to pay half ?
Aiyo, my part time housekeeper also complains about toothache. But seeing your dental expenses, I shudder liao…
yaleh nowadays dental fee is reli exp i think next time bring her to govn dental onli
u just made me realised that my maid did not brush teeth before bedtime!
i very geli to get her to open her mouth to let me see her teeth condition!!!
oh… expensive … but no choice lei, other wise.. she pain also cannot work more lagi pening kepala..
hahaha..foreigners’ bill is alwiz higher one mah. That’s y my agent said, if the maid fall sick or anything, check wif her first. If she think very serious, only send to clinic. If not, just give medicine only.
My prev maid oso got her tooth extracted while she was working with us. Dental bill is vy expensive. We paid for her. I don’t think they can afford it. They’d rather bear the pain or take pain killer. Do keep reminding her to brush her teeth more often so that the teeth won’t decay so fast.
thats what we have to go thru.. cannot charge to maid’s account ah?
or to save money, send her to govt hospital’s dental dept, shd be cheaper right?
guess need to wait damn long in govt hospital hoh? prob. need to take a day off which is not justifiable to me lah (wasted my leave somemore!!!)…
yea, charge half or even 1/3 to her account would be a good idea…
am seriously thinking to hire a maid to ease my life too despite seeing so many horrible cases of them.. but cant help sometimes :-S
EeeEeeEee.. must be very smelling.. Next time employ maid oso must ask them open their mouth and let us see.. Yucks!
Don’t you have government dental clinic? Or a dental clinic attached to a dental faculty?
I used to go to the one at UH when I lived in PJ. In Melaka, I went to Poliklinik Kommuniti in Air Keroh or the dental clinic Pengkalan Rama, treatments were free, RM2 for registration only.
IMO, the dentists there do a more detailed thus better job than the ones at private practice, as they usually are not in a hurry or pressure to do as many patients as possible.
If ask to deduct salary, my maid would rather live in pain by taking just painkiller. she said this is what they practice there, no filling, just let the tooth get rotten and fall by itself.
Although I would very much like to visit our goverment clinic, but due to the wait (with 2 babies some more, it is not feasible.) Hubby only free on weekend, so had to go to private.
These are all the hidden costs that come when one gets a maid, huh?
with all the maids i hv over the years, none of them raise the issue on dental. not sure is it they are afraid to tell if they hv pain, or really no issue…
i would say its expensive lor. however if my maid now comes n tell me got tooth problem, i guess i hv no choice to bring her to the dentist n pay for her. i dont think i’ll deduct salary since their wages already low. however i do like yr idea on govt. although long q…but can be considered highly.
Oh terrible, dental fee expensive leh but I dun think she can go government clinic right….
You must potong her gaji…
wow…mahal ooo…..better ask her brush teeth :|. If me, sure claim it under office haha, since got allocation
Oh well, good on you to take her to the dentist and get her teeth fixed. Treat it as another good deed to another person.
take her to GH lor.
RM80 cheap lor..mine i had to pay RM120 for extracting 1 rotten wisdom tooth.
sorry to hear that you have to go through the same thing I did. But I think they don’t really pay much attention to dental care maybe because its expensive there. We paid for the expenses.
Aiyoh..Hope that my maid don’t have a toothache lor…Otherwise, my toothache even MORE!!!!!
My maid has got this wisdom tooth ache last year. It was so bad that she had to go for extraction. It cost near to S$400. Luckily, she is understanding enough & pay for 75% of the bill herself. *sweat*
Next time take her to this private clinic in PJ Old Town. My bro takes his maid there and for extraction, it’s only like RM30-40. But I heard very painful. Good also lah if very painful, frighten the maid a bit!
Actually my maid dare not complain too, until I find her not sleeping well (due to tooth pain). In fact, it is good to bring her to government, since their extraction is soooo much more painful too, hehe…*evil me* so that she will take good care of her teeth and gums!
Gosh .. never thought about all this “hidden” cost when hiring a maid! thanks for highlighting!
Good of you to do that to your maid. Luckily you found out rather early and not later.
yor, not easy to get jaga a maid also hor
cannot share share the fee? hahha
Dono you guys agree or not..mostly maids came to Malaysia have this problem–toothache! Even my 2 philippino maid. I ask them why have to wait until to bad then only ask me to bring to dental treatment. They say in their country only rich ppl afford to pay “extra” money for their dental treatment. Cos if they (maids) go extra money then they will buy rice to keep at home for emergency use. Luckily, the dental clinic I brought them is very good hearted nurse & dentist & reasonable charge. Base on last year, 1 of my maid the toothache so I’d bring her to “visit” the dentist. She has to pull out the decayed tooth & the charges only RM70. Its together with painkiller. Is this consider cheap to compare with others?? I agree to be shared the fee but maybe we can pay for them the 1st time if still have the 2nd,3rd…times then can ask them to pay by themselves lo..
i wud deduct from her salary lor…if she was a good maid, i wudn’t mind paying for her but if she’s bad…too bad!!!!
Yeahlah. Having a maid got lots of hidden costs. Mine cost me about RM800 in dental care over 5 years. Lost track of medication, though she used up a big box of Panadol in 6 months, and strips of Imodium keep disappearing. How much diarrhoea can a person have? Also had to buy her Dettol soap and Rexona to battle body odour, and cream for cracked heel among others. Aiyah, very costly lah. But what to do? I hate housework. So that’s the price I have to pay.
Strangely this is the first maid I have who took pride in her teeth. She brushes her teeth 4 times a day. She doesn’t work much, and take 4 times as long to finish a task I could complete 4 times faster than her, and she is really really deplorably dirty when it comes to housework and house chore hygene. But when it comes to her personal grooming, she spend most of her time in her bathroom. Brushing teeth took maybe 15 minutes, and a shower maybe half an hour or so.
Wow…RM120 is expensive for scaling, unles it’s an INTENSE treatment for plaque. In general, folks in Indonesia have quite poor teeth health due to their milk powder, I hear.
My Indonesian students used to buy tins of powdered milk back home
It’s good that you took her to the dentist. It’s not hygenic to let the baby take the bad breath.
For me I’ll take her back to home town dentist. Cheaper and equally good.
