My maid almost burn my house!

Update on our Sunday wedding. Well, QQ totally forgot about it, haha!! Instead we went nearby to do some shopping. Since it was still early and the boys were still sleeping, I got the maid to prepare the vegetables and boil ikan bilis soup out in my wet kitchen for dinner.

Guess what happened? She left the boiling soup on fire and forgot to switch it off! When we got back, my new Zebra Stainless Steel pot is totally BLACK and the fire was still on the stove! Thank goodness my bathroom faucets is still shinning bright!

Thank goodness we only went out for a few hours. Really cannot imagine if the whole thing exploded and my house got burn!

I was so mad as we just bought the new pot a week ago. After several rubbing, the pot base is still black now. I think I shall cut her pay if she cannot get the stain off the pot by tonight!

**fuming mad**

  1. OMG, thank god you guys got back in time. About the pot, I think can throw liao…

  2. OMG!!! Hav to give ur maid a lesson. This kind of carelessness is not acceptable.

  3. i can understand ur frustration. theres once my x maid switch on the stove but the fire was not on. n the whole house was full of gas smell… n she still cant smell it! anytime can caught fire.

  4. Wow, so serious ar? Really have to double check next time before you go out lor….depend on ourselves rather than on maid lor…..

  5. My second maid once did that. The pot goes dry and the egg exploded and the pot lid flew to the top of the fridge. LUcky kimberly was with me in the bedroom. That was 7 years ago. We don’t allow the maids to cook in our absence. We made sure her food is already heated up in the microwave oven before we left the house. Many a time, maids prove themselves irresponsible. Lucky you and your family are not harmed.

  6. hmmm…. not good, dangerous ….

  7. that was quite careless of your maid. should explain to her it’s extra dangerous with children and especially babies at home.

  8. Oh dear! Must keep an eye of them closely!

    A love chain for you:

  9. Wah..can throw the pot liao. Actually, I aso did that before…forgot about the stove and left the pot burning. And I was in the house somemore, happily yakking with my mudder…until, I smelt something burning. When I went into the kitchen…ashes everywhere..and flames all high. I was sterilising my bottles….all gone.

    Sigh…bad mama.

  10. wahpiang! lucky you guys came back in time! wow, tat is scarry thot! :(

  11. Maids tend to be extremely forgetful and careless. Mine too. Touch wood, so far, she has not burn anything but has broken a few things and scatched our wooden furniture. Just gave her a `sounding’ lor. Seriously, I don’t recommend to cut her pay if this is the first incident. I don’t really want to create any serious tension between us and the maid, especially in your case, where you might leave your children with her in your absence. Anyway, we don’t trust the maid at all in handling our baby. She only does all the cleaning. We don’t even get her to cook for us. My wife will do a once in two months `one-to-one’ chat with her. Our objective is to review her performance, tell her what and why she did wrong, how to change and also hear her feedback. So far, it seemed to help.

  12. hm… so lucky you back in time! it happened to me to several years ago.. my baby sitter didn’t switch off the sterilizer…my kitchen already black you know!

  13. Shucks that is a close call!!!!!! Must give her lashing man.

  14. that’s why I’m very sceptical & wont trust these Indon aliens..lucky nothing major happen. Wah surprise blogger like u didnt take a picture of wht happen. Must have been the scare & shock!

  15. Ohh! that’s so dangerous! You may want to consider a stove that auto-shut off when the fire goes off. Don’t know what it’s called. I have that installed in my house.

  16. Wow that’s bad. I guess with maid, you have to double check the stove, iron and everything.

  17. wow…lucky thing it didn’t explode. my maid too forgot to off the fire and cont doing her work as usual. lucky thing i was sleeping upstairs and came down late to off the fire.

  18. Hi! Dropping by from Angeleyes blog…

Omg..that is so dangerous the maid…luckily nothing bad happened…and everyone is safe!! Nowadays, maids are terribly unreliable…

BTW, your twins are gorgeous!! Will drop by again…

  19. There is once I ask my maid to heat up the soup, and she totally forgot about the soup, and I was upstair in my room, I can smell the soup I quickly run down and the soup all dried up and my maid is still outside the living room and she cannot smell it nearly all burn. That’s why now if deal with soup or cooking, I will triple remind her about the fire!

  20. You can try Tupperclean from Tupperware for stainless steel pots. Once, I was boiling water and went to bed. The next morning, my pot is totally black and i had them scrub with Tupperclean. Not bad ler. But maybe boiling for too many hours the tupperclean cannot clean throughly. I think your case still can help.

  21. Aiyo… luckily nothing serious happened. U’d better chk urself next time u go out. Once in awhile, I’ll ask my maid if she’s cooking anything when we go out. Do be more careful next time.

  22. Your house got protected by fire insurance? LOL

  23. Aiyoo, how dangerous. Better make sure she doesn’t do it again.

  24. Paranoid me is always worried about such things. That is why I ask my maid to do ironing only in my prescence. If she has soup to boil while we are napping, I make sure she has nothing much else to do accept boil soup so that is her main task. Otherwise, if she is doing something else she may forget. I too have forgotten about my soup before till my pot turned black and I smell burning smell. Not once but more than once! :P So its a possible mistake not just by maids but by all of us when we are preoccupied. That is also the reason why when we go out the maid goes out with us and then we tapau food for all of us or eat out instead of leaving her behind to cook. I am paranoid that instead of finding nice home cooked food waiting for me when I get back, I will find a burnt kitchen instead! Hehe.

  25. Oh where did my comment go? You must remind her to be careful with fire and the iron too but I think it can happen with anyone not just maids. I’ve burned my pot black till I can smell burning smell definitely more than once before. Once, even smoke came out and the pot bottom turned coal red! Scary. Hahaha. The best way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to tell her to do nothing else accept jaga the soup if she must cook when you are not around.

  26. Did our old maid who burnt every pot and pan we have just go to your house? :-)

  27. so dangerous!!!! Luckily all is ok!

  28. yeah! luckily just went out for a few hours. Sigh.. really cannot trust them.. must double check next time. And yes, cut her pay!

  29. for your safety, never let the maid deals witht the stove while all of you are going out…

  30. Hehe…hubby did that once too. Put water to boil, forgotten all about it and we happily went out. Luckily we went out for a short while only. Came back to find our Zebra pot all black.
