De Limited Golden Drops

Time flies really and I am already completing the 3rd week of my confinement!

But sadly, I notice my milk supply is getting lesser and lesser (with less sign of engorgement). If the baby feeds at different time, I’ll normally feed one baby and pump on the other side at the same time.

Suckle amount = Pump amount ?

Not sure if the above equation applies. Sadly I only get the most 1.5oz from pumping one side. Does that mean that my baby only get to suckle 1.5oz from one side feeding?

No wonder they cry like mad and keep on waking up every hour! Since they are already taking 3oz of formula from bottle, I wonder if I can keep them full by solely breastfeeding them?

For the first 2 weeks, I have been pumping only at night and will put into this mini fridge upstairs (luckily got this portable mini fridge for car use) so that I do not have to go all the way down to the kitchen’s fridge or use my wine refrigerator.

But these 2 nights, I have been sleeping with one twin (on rotation basis) while CL takes the other. Since the supply is so low, I got to wake up almost every hour to feed to my hungry baby :(

Have been drinking a lot, taking all kinds of soup. Can you believe that this odd mama’s shirts and bras are dry all the time during confinement?

Any tips to increase my supply?

  1. papaya soup worked for me. some people says that fenugreek works, but don’t know how to use that.

actually, the more they suckle, the more milk is being processed. Feeding by demand is like that. I remember having to feed my kids every 2-3 hours, including the night feeds.

Eat well, and take care ya..

  2. Chinnee, try papaya soup and fa-sang pai-kut soup, soup is works! I got pretty of milk…still feeding my 11+mths baby! BTW, drink BF’sMilk like Anmum milk or Enfamama milk will help too! of course u need to drink more plain water too!!!

  3. HAHAHAHAAH!! I also wondered how come my milk dun leak out during the initial period. I remembered it was flowing like mad.

Actually, in first month…it doesn’t leak out! After 6 weeks..u see la..your milk will be spraying out!! Actually, what they suckle out is MUCH MUCH more than what we pump out. Their suction power more powderful than pump!

Just drink alot alot alot of liquids….so much until u feel like bursting!!!!!!! take care chin nee!

  4. I faced that same problem as you last time when I had Brae and Shay. Midwife asked me to eat more cheesecake. I heard papaya soup helps. And you can get fenugreek tea from TBL. Drink more more more fluids.

But I still only could get 3-4 ounces on one side. Perhaps the stress will affect your milk supply too. Anyway, all the best…and I’m sure your milk supply will get better after 6 weeks, as what Mott said if you continue let the babies suck.

  5. i read from healthfreakmommy that she drank a certain kinda tea to increase her milk supply. you go ask her. =)

  6. pump more, u get more. dun give up, keep pumping. For me, pepper+shallots+sau yuk soup works just fine.

  7. despite red dates juice, fish, i took papaya soup, Anmum (BF)milk too. cheesecake alot :P… after confinement. take it easy(take a deep breath), perhaps yours will be coming very later^^.
btw, thanks for dropping by, busy mum still got little time to hop in.

  9. drink papaya soup, it works for me & i manage to breastfeed my preemie twins for 6 months, just keep on pumping & let the twins suckle, use hot towel on the breast and massage the breast b4 breastfeeding or pumping, avoid being stressful as it will affect the milk supply, keep thinking of ur pair of twins while pumpin as it is said to help in increasing the milk, enjoy ur parenting to ur pair of twins….congrats and take good care.

  10. All I can say is just keep feeding…. if they stick to you for hours… then just leave then there? LOL… easiest is breastfeeding lying down if you’re only feeding 1 twin at a time, makes you relaxed anough and wont strain your back! For myself, I actually didn’t really pump much for the 1st month… only started on the 2nd month when I have to leave the house… 1st month milk supply is really not much, just enough for your babies, so don’t stress too much over it, let them suckle more and in time your supply WILL increase…

  11. besides keep letting bb suck, pumping n drink more liquid, the other thing u need to do is relax….

by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIN NEE !!!

  12. opps sorry not today anyway i think its not too early to wish u bday hehe

  13. whenever ur CL feed bb with formula, u also pump at the same time so that ur body knows that at that time or hour, body needs to produce breastmilk for bb. thats what i did when my CL fed Iris with formula.
have u tried latching 1 baby, (the loudest one I heard yesterday) and then only u latch the other and see if it works?
its only 3rd week, so its ok to produce this little, but boys drinks more.
    feed on demand!

    good luck

  14. Not sure if you need to go back to work? At first I wasn’t going to and really enjoyed breastfeeding (not pumping!)

I could easily feed Lucas until he was full and fell asleep. Somehow, pumping doesn’t give you just as much.

I hear fenugreek works really well and you can get it easily from the pharmacy. Tell them that you’re using it for breastfeeding and be sure to get it from a good pharmacy.

No experience here coz when I wanted to take it, Lucas decided to stop :-(

Durian is supposed to work too! Good luck ya

  15. dont pressure yourself…

  16. For me, I drink lots of water, at least 2-3litre a day and I eat fish every day. Drink soups also help.

  17. did you have so much milk during QiQi’s time? I think you need mixed feeding at this time. Don’t worry as long as the boys have breastmilk even a little, i still think its fine. well better than nothing.

  18. u woke up every hour to feed ur twins?? dat must be very very tired huh!

well, u’re trying ur very best… at least u can pump it out. i can’t even get 1 oz from both side… *shy*

wish u all the best :)

  19. my experience, left and right breast produced different quantity of bm, don’t know how do you think yours…

just let the babies suck more whenever they wish, I am sure your milk supply will be getting more!

  20. For #1, i have a little wet shirt, esp in the morning. But he still cries all the time and need to be fed all the time.

#2, almost no wet. He is a much calmer baby, nurses well with a few hours intervals in between.

But i noticed that i can get more from my pump for #2. Conclusion…wet shirt or not doesn’t mean anything.

Why not see a lactation consultant if you are worried. I read in the MMB forum that there is a PD/ Lactation consultant, Dr Koe in KL/ PJ (?) Maybe you can go for advise?

  21. does this happen in ur first delivery? i heard that papaya soup is good for breastmilk production. but, if u direct feed all the time especially in midnite, u should have more milk supply…y hah? anyway, don’t take it too hard, little is better than none. don’t stress urself too much! all the bb of our elder generations were brought up by milk powder too. as long as the kids are healthy!

  22. don’t be disheartened by the seemingly small amount. perhaps your sons are those small but frequent eater, that’s why you breast also produce according to the pattern. I had almost the same amount or less also last time and my baby also stuck at my breast all the time. As what Jacelyn said, little is better than none. Dun worry about the amount, as long as you are persistent, your sons wil continue getting the goodness of breast milk. Perhaps you should see Dr Koe also.

  23. This method (from my French friend) worked on me: Drink Malts beer (but with 0% Alcohol). I think malt drink like Horlicks do help too .. Most importantly, drink lots and lots of water! It’s really effective for me till my milk is over flowing :P

  24. Good to own a mini fridge. no need to walk up & down the staircase just to store the milk.

amount of milk pump don’t equal the amount of milk you baby gets. They are the best breast pump in the world and they definitely had more than you think.

  25. [...] and convenience of breastfeeding, I forced myself to breastfeed my twin boys although I was totally dry during my confinement. It was not an easy journey to breastfeed 2 frequent crying boys who refuse milk bottle in their [...]
