Why so late one?

Twin Pregnancy @ 37weeks, 3 days

Don’t know whether to be happy or worried, the boys still show no sign of coming out yet. Read this:

A typical, single pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, but a twin pregnancy often lasts between 35 to 37 weeks. Nearly half of all twins are born prematurely (before 37 weeks).

Now I am wondering if I have calculated their date wrongly since I did not have my menses prior to this pregnancy (due to the miscarriage incident). However at the last scan, they are showing a good weight of 2.6kg and 2.8kg each.

So now deliver at private or HUKM?

Hubby even suggest this morning if we should deliver the twins with our private gynae, since the babies are bigger now and has a lower possibility of needing the facilities of NICU.

Provided everything is ok, then a normal delivery for twins will only cost about RM5k (including epidural and baby care). The reason why I wanted to go to HUKM (semi goverment) initially is that my previous delivery with QQ alone at private already cost more than RM8K as she was hospitalized for 6 days in NICU. If the twins need ICU, we will not be able to bear the expenses. *might even need to apply a new card to do a balance transfer credit card*

Really don’t know should I go to HUKM or my gynae at private now. Any personal opinion is welcome.

  1. Hey you got a twins? Congrats! By the way few of my colleagues delivered at HUKM and they told me the service level is good as compared to other government hospitals and the total cost for a C-section is less than RM1K. I delivered both my kids at a private hospital and it already cost me RM8 K and that was 4 years back. I couldn’t imagine how much would it be now.:(

  2. ChinNee,

I think you should not think of it as RM5k. Anything can happen, and you might need to go for emergency c-sect. That would double your cost at Private. With that being said, do continue going to see the gynae for weekly checkups. If your twins are well, then good. It’s hard for you to monitor the movements of both of them..but do try.

Again, praying for a safe n happy delivery. Take care

  3. As Mott said, continue to check-up with ur gynea until you are due, and have your delivery at HUKM. But, if you would like to go to the private hospital, check if they allow payment by installments or maybe check with the credit card provider. That will really helps if you can pay by installments. Anyway, dont worry about it too much, it will sort out by itself..maybe you will be due tonight ? tomorrow ??? …Pray and be happy…

  4. Safety comes first, IMHO. Money can cari again.

  5. For me, I will definitely go private, as baby and my life is precious….money is just a small matter which can be solve anyhow(use credit card first)…..going through 9 mths of pregnancy, I don’t wish to see any ‘error’ occur…….

  6. It all depends on your comfort level whether to deliver in private or government hospital. If you want to switch now, i would suggest you bring your record to see the gynae in the hospital of your choice so at least they have your record there.

  7. Agreed, safety is the most important. You may have to consider the ‘equipment’ of the hospital too!

  8. Hi, I’m pregnant myself and my baby edd is the same as your twins. So one can say we’re on the same boat ya.. except i’m having single pregnancy. Anxious huh for the babies arrival?
I can understand, since me myself every day negotiate with mine, hoping he’ll pop out earlier. Not exactly a person with good patience, waiting is torture. I even tried acupressure on my own.
My frens keep telling me no point to worry myself sick if baby is not ready yet to see the world. Some babies tend to enjoy a little while longer in mummy’s tummy, so long they thrive happily..

  9. well done to the twins..to achieve a good weight…

  10. Haha Chinnee maybe God heard my praying. Praying for your twin stay longer, bigger and healtier in your belly LOL. Very soon you will bz bonding 2 of them no hurry just let it do in natural way :)

  11. sigh. we worry bt getting pregnant. then we worry abt deliver process.
then about leaving them with bbsitter. then about caring for them.
never ending worrying for the life of a mother!

Good luck with your choice, and hope you have a good delivery!

    take care o.O

  12. Hey..babies are full term right? Wow. Congrats. My only experience is delivering in private hospital. Sorry. Not much help here. Irene is right. Sigh, never ending worries. But I guess that’s what makes us mothers strong, huh.

    take care ya!

  13. Hmm….I would personally go for something I’m comfortable with. At the end of the day, I would want my kids to be born knowing that there is good health care if complications do arise *touch wood*. Money can earn back……………

  14. Chinnee, i am as gan cheong as you..hehehehe
do relax and baby will come out when its God perfect timing..

    relax….
    take care

  15. You have been seeing both govt and private so you will be able to judge yourself which gives you the best and which you are more comfortable with. Sometimes private need not necessarily be the best. It all depends on the doc and the equipment and facilities. Compare based on your own knowledge and comfort level.

  16. pls try not to worry about the money, it’s important yes.. but at this moment, it’s your (and the boys) health that matters… praying for a safe and smooth delivery for you :-)

  17. Mumsgather has edi said wat I wanted to say. :) U know best.

  18. Hi Chinnee,
I first wanted to say it’s great that the boys passed their 37th week! Near to normal weight…

I agree with Mumsgather that private isn’t necessarily the best. As you’ve been seeinga private gynae, you may want to swing by HUKM soon to at meet the gynae there.

HUKM’s NICU has glowing reviews and generally, govt hospitals are the best places for emergencies etc.

Having said that, if your private gynae’s & hospital’s reputation come up with 5 star rating too, then you should rest easy with him/her.

I agree with the others that if $$$ (not safety) is the main concern, then just stick with where you are now.

Go with what your heart tells you! I believe in mother’s instinct. Take care.

P/S I went to a non-profit hospital because the gynae’s name goes with “caring”, “Baby & mother are his No. 1 priority”, “pro natural”, “Caesarean is last resort”. Without a doubt, I will go to him again for No. 2.

  19. Can’t wait to hear good news from you soon. I think you may have miscalculated your EDD, so I think you can still wait. If cost is a concern to you, then you might want to consider HUKM, else, I would rather go to private. But since you are having twins, equipment of the private hospital would be my major concern too. Life is too precious. Go with your instinct. See which hospital you and Tan felt more comfortable you. Money - u can earn it back anytime through blogging. :P

  20. Chin Nee, focus on relaxation. Don’t think much about the money.

remember to let us know once you’re on the way to the hospital ya? hehehe
