Smelly morning maid

1. Did not brushteeth!

Now I found out why my maid smell so smelly in the morning.

A few times before this, I thought that it was because she has not taken her bath. But since I could not sleep this morning, I got up before her to WAKE HER UP when she forgot to wake up on time (haha…..sign of getting lazier yeah….)

Went to check her toothbrush but it was dry! (No wonder so smelly la when I talk to her). Ok, fine, I came down and ask her if she has washed her face, she said yes. But later when I talked to her, she is so smelly that I could not stand but cover my nose. Then I asked her directly AGAIN, “Ada gosok gigi pagi (Got brush teeth in the morning)?“, then baru she so paiseh and said “no“.

Aiyo……How to let her boil our drinking water and make breakfast in the morning like that? So inhygenic!!

2. How work can be done so quickly

Another observation. Know why she sweep and mop the whole house so quickly? While sitting here blogging in the early morning, this is what I discovered:

  • Swing the broom one sided “senget “(hardly touches the floor!)
  • Did not move the furnitures / toys away (just ignore all the hard to reach area)

If she clean this way, no matter how many time sweep or mop, also useless right?

Sigh…..well, I understand she is just an employee (like most of us do when working for our company in the office). Surely will just quickly do to complete our work without putting 100% effort into it. Normal, isn’t it?

  1. hhaha maids are like that lo.. cannot expect much from them!! :) so all u can do is just to watch her closely , hopefully she can fulfill 80% of your demand then u should be thankful !

  2. You still got time to train and correct her since she’s new. Until now, we (MIL, SILs) still insist my maid to shower after some hard work before she’s allowed to carry baby. Sometimes she bathe more than twice a day.

  3. Hi, Chinnee. I’m scare of smelly maid. Think you should draw her a chart on personal hygiene-brush teeth, wash face, wash hair with shampoo and body with soap and change clean clothes. Watch her closely because she needs to help you to take care of your babies and Qiqi!Good luck to you, my friend!

  4. Don’t stress yourself up. Its normal for them not to put cleaniness first. You need to make sure that she keeps herself clean. Especially her teeth. My maid had a toothache and we spent like RM300 for her dental works. Normally their teeth is quite bad la. Buy her good toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo (everyday must wash hair!), shower gel (to make sure they wash themselve clean), clean towels… Yup, you have to include the bathing time in their schedule as well. Have hand soap everywhere so they can wash their hands often.

I teach and check my maid’s work closely for the first 3 mths (very strict lor cos they tend to cut corners as much as they can). Then can relax a bit la after good performance. When you show them to do a task, tell them you want her to do that way and that way only. If she doesn’t do it well, ask her to do all over again. Nagging them won’t work and get yourself uptight only.

Most importantly, take care of yourself ya!

  5. Haha, almost 10/10 of maid is not hygiene. They are follow their indonesia culture and habits, definately we can’t accept. My maid also same do thing very fast but when i sit down and monitor her then she will pretend hardworking & clean very details…. No matter how you teach her, end up also will be same! They will become “ching chai” when you are not around.

  6. I am like lilchomel too, watch and monitor her closely. When i have given her a task, i always ensure she understand what i have said and what i want by asking her to repeat what task and instruction i have given her. By doing so, i get to know whether she understand what i have said and in the end there is no denial from her that she doesn’t understand what task i have given her. Yes, in my house, the hand wash solution is display in all bathrooms and on the kitchen top too, so she is to wash her hand b4 handling food, etc. I can now proudlly said that my maid has been trained as a clean freak too. She sweeps and mop under the sofa set too. I even make sure she cleans her own room!! Well, i did check her stuff with her presence by saying that i want to make sure she clean her clothings, towel, bedsheet and blanket clean. Everyweek, she will has to show me her wardrobe and all her stuff. By doing so, i am able to know if there is any “unwanted” stuff hidden by her. However, i have never ill-treated her, i bought her pantene shampoo, Dove shower cream, hand moisturer, but she knows i am very strcit with my rules. Deep in my heart, i know she has done a good job.

  7. would like to add on is that i separated her fork & spoon, cup, plate and bowl from ours. This is for hygenic health purpose. She is not supposed to scoop any dishes with her spoon. My practice is there is a spoon on all dishes. Please take care, with ur twins coming soon, hygenic is very important. Teach her to practice cleanliness and hygiene all the time. Good luck and take care.

  8. ya indon maid tends to smell n they r very unhygiene but my previous maid who left us bcoz doesnt wanna take care of my children she is clean, she did a good job in housework but cant handle my kids…. actually fillipino maid r more hygiene they can do a good job that is why we have part timers to clean the house

  9. forgot to mention my temp maid oso do housework very chin chai, i never monitor her work n everytime at nite i saw the toys laying around the floor at night the next morning the toys r still at the same place n i can say definately clean the hard to reach place, she onli clean the surface … i have to close eyes that is y we have part timer to clean our house

  10. Yikesss…If I were you, sure, force her to brush her teeth…..eeeiii..can’t imagine my son talk to maid without brush her teeth

  11. maid…sigh…most of the maids are like that…what to do? we just can’t survive without the maid.

  12. take care on your self & be alert to your maid ya. is not easy to get a satisfied home helper. if cann’t tahan (after rectification), better change it.

glad you make your pregnancy to this stage.

btw, i leave comments few times, but all missing. dont know why… kek si lang leh…

i just want to tell you that, i took my girl see eye specialist who has her records since born. and she is confirmed developing short sighted with power of +50. no spec required but attentive care.

i thank you your blog and advice. i sincerely wish you a smooth delivery.

  13. my ex-maid(ya, i got rid of that one) was the same. I discovered that she didn’t brush her
teeth for a month. And, she was keeping her sanitary napkins all wrapped up in her bag.
u need to make sure that u add bathing, brushing teeth and teach her how to dispose her
sanitary napkins in her roaster too. and time her bathing. u tell them to keep clean, they
will decide to take a long bath.

  14. sigh. no offence to all yah, sometimes its a bit sad to read all the above.
maid also human mah, why we treat them like dis. but then their lifestyle
is so diff than ours so i guess the above happens loh (ie. no brush teeth,
    no wash hand, no mandi)

of cos we want the best for our own family. hence all the strict rules.
better be safe than sorry. now me no helper, mayb near future wen we
intend to get a helper, i will be more freak than you Chin Nee. haha. by
    then u will be a maid-pro oredi. keke…

above all, please take care. ur about to POP soon! o.O

  15. thats why must watch them all the time. some tend to get lazy after 3 mths coz they know that after 3 mths cannot change maid, etc..

  16. I think hygiene is very important. Make sure she brushes her teeth everday! ;)

  17. if u see her doing things wrong, must instantly tell her.and show her, if not they forget then they thought they are right the susah liao. good that u observe that :)

  18. Wah, headache start lo… maids no matter how good they are will still be maids la… they will be quite unhygienic if left to their own devices. Just keep an eye and tell them what they do wrong immediately… don’t be like my hubs who like to tell ME what he don’t like, why tell me when he can tell HER off directly… MEN! Sigh…

  19. Difficult to teach maid I find it, more diff than teaching children. If you scold her, she probably will say you strict. If you ignore, she will climb all over you.

  20. ha ha. Most maids are like this. Good that you observe her from the beginning.

  21. sweep wihtout touching the floor…hahah that is like some kungfu action! Jazz is right la..if she is wrong, correct her instantly.

  22. Have u delivered?

Hope you n twins r alright!

  23. OMG, she start off the day without brushing her teeth. Did you ask her what’s the reason? Have to educate her on her own hygiene. With that, she can take good care of your twins :)

  24. gosshhh….never brush her teeth? my ex-maid also did the housework exactly like yours. i’m almost puke all my blood and got to teach everything all over again.

  25. Just tell her that she should take her shower as soon as she gets up. Or at least put some talcum powder lor. As for the cleaning, if I’m not satisfied I’ll show her how to do it again. If she continues slacking then I’ll just ask her to sweep again. She will realise that she might as well do it right the first time else she has to do it again anyway.

  26. Hehehe..maybe the place they come from has no brushing teath practise… Or maybe it’s a waste of clean water to brush teath ??? I have heard alot of aunties, telling ppl how to handle maid. 1st of all, dont be too friendly with them. Then, must list down all the Dos & Don’ts. 3rd, don’t let them eat together with your family..etc etc… Aiyoo..at the end, it’s like we are being controled by the maid !I always feel that having a maid is just like having a timed bomb at home…too worried & scared to get one. But, on the other hand, having a maid really can make ur house cleaner & tidier..So,…it’s like…well…anyway…it’s so difficult to describe the feeling..to have or not to have…

  27. Aiyoh, your maid! Why don’t you do the chores yourself to show her? I did that with my maid. I was about to deliver too at that time. I got up at 5:30am and showed her everything from scratch. These maids are really very forgetful and you have to show them many times and keep nagging too!

  28. that’s why people say sometimes you got to close one eyes when there’s a maid at home… *Sigh*

  29. get a life and stop complaining about your maids. they are domestic helpers

    and not slaves.
