My Homemade GD Flash Cards

Anyone believe in flashing reading cards to their kids?

Anyhow, just post this as some mums wanna know how I DIY my Glenn Doman cards.

Self printed 11″ x 11″ Math Number Cards

The art cards are really not cheap, what’s more to prepare them.

I was very lucky that I get to know a mum (also our company printing vendor) to help me to pre-cut the art cards cards according to the measurement that I want. Math cards is easy as I only have to print them red on A4, then cut and paste onto the 11″ x 11″ blank card (I still got about 70 pieces extra, if anyone interested, it is 40sen per piece).

Home made Glen Doman English Reading Cards

I was heavily pregnant at that time. Every night, I would sit down at home to write these words using my manually made alphabet shaper (a few of these can already make most of the parts of the alphabet, thanks to tips from Sharon).

After outline them out with a pencil, I will write (and color) the words using thick red marker. Made around 200 cards for her, but hardly flash them as she does not show interest in my hard work :(

(In fact, I was devasted and disappointed after I learned that she has got serious eye sight problem recently as if all my previous effort gone wasted!)

I later only found out that we can actually buy some of the ready cards from dajiaDIY.com (but they do not strictly follow the Glenn Doman measurement). Don’t really like the reading cards so I only got some Chinese cards from them.

Will post more on the advance reading materials that I prepared for her.

  2. Previously bought some flash card for my gal too. “New Toilet Bowl” haha now lazy to flash those to her. She prefer VCD and practical teaching.

  3. I think kids love playing with flash cards so QQ may easily learn more vocabulary. Good job! :D

  4. I dont have sooo much as you…I also must take out the cards liau hi hi

  5. Wah… you are really rajin la. The cards are sooooo nice. I think it is very useful to teach your child words (of course la if not GD won’t be so well known for this). Jon responds positively towards flash cards in school. But at home he prefers books and VCDs. He can actually read a lot of words from Peter and Jane (1a). I guess no harm flashing words and pictures at them.

  6. Ur efforts won’t go to waste. Can use for the boys later. I’ve nvr used flash cards with the kids. Too ‘kiam siap’ to buy the orig one, n too lazy to make my own. :p

  7. Wow! You made the flashcards! I’m sure your boys will benefit from it :)

  10. Hi Chinnee… what a co-incident, I just posted on Flash Card. You can actually buy from this website too, check out my blog. I did my own DIY cards too. It is good that you prepare now and use it for 3 of them at one go next time…hehe….Bravo!

  11. wow! U r a great mom! i’m so so lazy with flash cards!

how are u doin? hope all is well.

  12. Wow, Chinnee, you’re a great mom. I got do quite lot of flash cards(ikut ‘mine own style’) but not the gd one. I think children respond good at flash cards. Like what everybody say, next time can use your diy cards with the twins. Good job, mummy!

  13. I bought a lot of flash cards for my boys too. However, they prefers to hold it themselves & creating a mess on the floor after that. It is really tough to use flash cards on them. You are so patient to do all the card for your baby. I hope they appreciate what mummy has done for them & make the best use of it in future :)

  14. I have lots of unused blank flash cards too, nicely cut 11” x 11” measurement.

I have written about 200 words but so embarassed to say, I don’t even flash 1/4 of the DIY cards to my girl. Super lazy mum!

  15. You’re welcomed, Chin Nee.

BTW, since you’re waiting to pop, you cando some pic cards - encyclopaedic flash cards on the same maths card size so that you won’t have to be “mang chang” preparing it when you babies arrive.

Babies have photographic memories and starting them young will create lots of vibrant brain cells activies.

  16. I made all my flashcards, bought some too. But most of the ones found in the market are too simple. You can try downloading it online for free at http://www.childbrain.org
its a well known Glenn Doman website. It also host a bunch of other education stuff. Sky is the limit — you can do science of the heart, eye, brain, etc.. You’ll be surprise, how fast they learn. You can try flashing a variety of things all in one go, only one condition — mommy & qq must be happy during that period. — Good luck

For more resource try out chinese websites, they host all free stuff for everyone http://bbs.etjy.com
