Results of our 2nd findings
Last Saturday we went for a 2nd opinion with another Consultant Optalmologist. He confirmed our first finding was accurate but we were disappointed with the way he casually diagnose QQ’s situation.
QQ’s condition: Hypermetropia of 950 degree
Paediatric Ophthalmologist corrective action:
Use glasses of 800 degree (differential of 150 degree only). As kids muscle is flexible, they can adjust quickly to the new condition and most importantly, the eyes must be treated as soon as possible before it is too late (brain cell almost stop develops/develop slowly by the age of 6 and the eyes nerve could die off and into lazy eye.
Normal Ophthalmologist corrective action:
Use glasses of 600 degree. Emphasis on gradual adjustment by only using 2/3 from the actual condition so that the child can slowly adjust to the change and would not be dizzy with the dramatic change. Tell us that is it in fact good to let her be a bit short-sighted so that it could cure her long sighted which we really cannot accept at all.
Children especially babies are at the growing stage, and their eye muscle and brain work differently from an adult. Therefore going to the right Ophthalmologist that is familiar with children’s condition is very important.
2 VERY Important Issues when you bring your child for a check up:
1. Going to the right Ophthalmologist for your child
Our very few Paediatric Ophthalmologist that I know of:
1. Goverment: UMMC (Prof Visvaraja S.,Dr Choo M.M., Dr Nurliza K.)
2. Private: ISEC (Dr.Choong Yee Fong)
Dr.Choong is very good with the kid (I supposed all Paediatric is Phsiologically trained to handle children) and gave us a very thorough explaination on QQ’s eye situation. Furthermore, ISEC has got a proper set-up room with eye stimulation toys and lighting to test the kids vision.
2. Getting a good Optometrist who is experience in handling children’s glasses
Wearing the suitable glasses (with high accuracy measurement and angle of the lenses is very important. Best if your eye specialist could recommend a good one. We were very lucky to find a very good one Optometrist that can even “communicate well” with children (even my super fussy hubby admit he is that good)
Name of shop: YK Leong (also name of the Optometrist)
Location: Damansara Jaya (just facing the entrance to Giant Supermarket at Wisma Atria).

Oh dear! Did not know qi-qi has eyes problems! Hope with the diagnosis she will be ok soon.
*hugs*
Don’t tired yourself too much ok… you need more rest now.
Thank God everything has been settled, just hope for the best and relax.
hehe… I’ve worked with Dr Choong b4… I can certainly standby his passion for medicine and research
Thanks for the tip! I should share it with my sis, cause her baby has some eyes problem….people called *mata juling*
Thanks for the update and tips
Great to hear that everything is settled now.
there are special lenses processed in Singapore called eyewear i think. That’s what my daughter uses, it’s very light and not that thick. I’m not sure if that is recommended for QQ too but you can ask the optometrist. That special lens is not that thick even if the grade is high, therefore it’s very light.
Qi Qi is under safe hands now.. So glad all are being worked out. Good luck and please do take care.
I do agree that we get it fix ASAP will be of great help for QiQi. Probably that is why my brother not very good in studies, cause we only discover it when he’s in secondary school :|…sigh…
Good thing you had it checked out early. My hubs started wearing glasses at 2.5yrs old!!
You know my hubby has lazy eye and didn’t receive any treatment also. He still live normally with 1 eye vision and the other eye blur. Anyway don’t worry too much, leave it to the doc to fix QiQi’s eye.
I am sure with advance tech, there would be a cure in the future.
good thing you noticed and got treatment for her early.. now can relax ya
Truly agree with getting a qualified Ophthalmologist. When I was young, staying in a small town, we only know to head to the spectacle shop which the owner is not a Optometrist. End up my eye sight so bad…I suppose if my parents had find the right help for me, it won’t be that bad.
good to have early treatment, dont worry and everything is fine now…thanks for the sharing..
nowadays kids wear glasses very common le
I have lazy eye, and I keep wondering if my kids have it too. It’s still too early to tell as I don’t see the signs of them having the problem yet. Anyway, I just want to say early detection is the best for kids. My condition was detected late though, but I’m still doing fine.
Don’t worry too much now, ok?
chin nee, qq case is what ah? short sighted? wah, me confused with all the ‘big’ names leh, pardon me cause i hv super power eyes one..so i got gd vision,
i am oso worried with Ian’s eyes… so i better send him for check up..
btw, if u r mentioning the wisma atria in PJ, that also has Giant hypermarket, that area is called damansara jaya. unless ara damansara has a wisma atria and giant there. AD is somewhere near the subang airport..i mean on the way sorta..
got the YK Leong tel?
Don’t worry too much ya, now wearing correct spec should help a lot for qiqi eye! Take care!
Totally agree with you about getting a qualified person. I think my eyesight is so bad now ‘cos I went to those unqualified optometrist when I was young. As for QQ, don’t worry too much. It’s good that you found out the problem early and now you can concentrate on getting the right treatment for her. Take care
glad to know that qiqi finally got a right corrective action for her eyes, I think she might be in shock too with the finding.
take care…
chinee, pls take care of urself.. i noe its not easy for u but think on the bright side, at least u not qq problem now and can still b corrected… wont worry n keep praying
Heard hubby said his friend kid also wearing those spectacle to adjust and help to improve the vision. So cheer up Chinnee, QQ will be fine.
QQ, keep smiling!! You will be okay!
glad to know that you found a good doctor, may everything will go fine for Qiqi..
Sadness creeps up reading this and your previous post on the same subject. You & your hubby did right seeking a second opinion. Hope everything will turn out well for you, your girl and your twins. Take care!
Its always wise to go for a second opinion. Thanks for sharing. I din know that there is PO. Hope QQ got the right treatment early. You have to take care too & rest well too.
Eh, my fussy hubs also mentioned that no other optometrist can get him a decent pair of spectacles expect for the one in Atria also. Now I bet he’s really good.
Don’t you worry now, QiQi is in the hand of the best Ophthalmologist, her sight will surely improve.
glad that you found a good Ophthalmologist for her. dont worry much.
Fren, do not worry too much since there is an option of the treatment now. When Qi Qi grows up later, then maybe she can undergo lasik lor. You gotta take good care of yourself. Promise, k.
Luckily you found a good doctor. Don’t worry now, QQ will be in good hands.
