William Heyward

Often we read about heroes, how they reached out to save people all around them, trying to help as much as they can. These people really help with an open heart, without even hoping for any recognition or award. In some poor countries, we see volunteer nurses and doctors flying over to help the sick and the poor without even afraid of the disease that might caught them. For instant, we all know about the sacrifice of Mother Theresa and there are even lots more of people who are out there helping just like her.

However there is a risk when someone reaches out to help especially with the sickness. For instant, people dealing with the world’s deadliest diseases such as AIDS, Ebola can be transmitted by this disease very easily while they are working with these people in some of the world’s poorest area.

Dr. William Heyward is among one of the hero who has been fighting against these deadly diseases. His effort started way back in 1979, where he worked with indigenous populations to fight against Hepatitis B and liver cancer among the Alaskan natives. He then spent his time later for study of HIV/AIDS and investigates the Ebola epidemic in Zaire. If only each on of us could contribute a little of what he have done, we would have a peaceful world.
