Do you allow your kids to skip school?

We just found out that we would not have our car before the arrival of CNY ..*mad*

It is really sad as we placed our booking on last September, and the branch that we went to did not manage to get us the color of the car that we want although we are supposed to get the car in the first batch arrived.

We are now searching frantically for another 7-seater (that can accomodate 3 car seats) but after visiting a few showrooms yesterday, either they are too expensive or we find some not worth buying at all. We do consider recond cars but QQ was extremely sensitive to the smell of the interior of used cars, sigh….If only money is not a problem, we could have a wider choice, sigh…..

So today hubby got to take a bus back to his hometown to borrow a car from my SIL so that I could drive QQ to school. Was wondering if it is acceptable for other parents to allow their kids skip pre-school when inconvenience arrise?

I just couldn’t bear to make QQ skip school anymore, especially after my hardship of getting her settling down in school!

  1. my children skip school when they slept real late the nite b4. sleep is more important.

they skip school when i woke up late too! hehe

as for me, kindy is just play school. i take it easy.

Miche, i am scared it turns into a habit for QQ, hope to get her discipline thru school and made known her responsibility :p

  2. Why Qiqi is sensitive to used car???

Actually you can send the old car to be sanitized so it’s fresh. I find that brand new cars smell even worst. I feel nausea when I’m in a brand new car.

She has sensitive nose :( Aiyo…i love new car smell ler…hehe….

  3. ian skipped school when he had alittle bit of flu or cough, other than that we didnt allow him to skip school. now that he is 5yrs old, he cant afford to skip unless its something really important or serious.
some recond cars smell gd, it depends,..

    yeah….agree with you:)

  4. I only allow her skip school if she is sick. Good habit has to practice since young.

but your case is different, but still have to explain to QQ clearly.

    yes…Jess, agree with you :)

  5. does qiqi’s kindy provide transportation? that way, you don’t have to worry about sending her to school anymore.

about the recond cars, it’s worth checkin out, there are plenty of choices for 7 seaters. i don’t remember sittin in a recond cars with smell. cos my hubs will send it for steam-cleaning until everything is sparklin clean and smells like new before sellin it off.

haha….plenty but most of them we can’t afford :( yeah…..the school have transportation, but she just started school, dont wanna make her cry again so soon….

  6. Happy New Year!

My kids never missed school unless they are sick and once my son had a cricket match the whole day on his birthday (Sunday), I allowed him to have the next day off the Monday much to my husband’s disapproval.

I hope your car comes soon.

actually it is good not to miss school otherwise they think they could whenever they dont want to go.

  7. I try not to let Alycia skip school… want to instill a good habit in her. Plus she has missed school for too long and I don’t want her to miss out even more, coz she’s already way behind her peers.

yeah…shireen, i think the same too, its a habit tat we want to instill…

  8. i would let jo skip school sometimes, especially those days when i was not feeling well or he was not feeling well. since we walk to school, so when i was sick, i was just not able to send him to school.

wow…walk there, in the freezing cold weather…can understand your case.

  9. last year sebastian skip school few time due to our travel and sometime wake up late or not feeling well. i think for 4yrs old kids n below to skip school it’s still acceptable which i normally do :) …. but not when they start entering primary school lor

i was a horrible child and refuse to go to school frequently.if it bcomes a habit now, scared it will bcome a habit later on too :(

  10. my kids skipped school too but for a very good reason, i think that’s ok Chinnee.

Re:purchase of a new car, darn! Why are there people who are irresponsible, bad customer service ha and to think you are not just buying a small thing but a CAR!

sigh…guess we are just happen to be unlucky….

  11. well…to me, skipping class during their nursery/kindy years was such a norm!! whenever the boys had only little hiccups (cough/running nose/fever), my mom would say :
“no need to go to school lar….as if they are going to learn a lot”
so it was kinda loose on our part with skipping class now… but moving on in primary years, i doubt i could still keep this type of mentality hor!!??
as long as d skipping was for convenient sake, i think shd be ok lar….

haha…wat if bcome a habit, std 1 lagi tough, lagi feel like dont wanna go school then….kekeke…

  12. Hi, Chinnee. I let my girl skips school every month for 1 or 2 days coz we follow hubby to KL. But before we go to KL, I will let her class teacher knows about her absence and ask her teacher to give my girl the homework so that I can let her do at my mum’s place. We still can follow hubby to KL each month but not next year after my girl starts her Std 1. But for Qiqi’s case, I don’t think you should let her stay at home, maybe you can check out with the teachers(with the transport one)to send her back for temp.

goin KL shud be ok coz it is special case..hehe…

  13. Actually, I don’t mind my kids skip class when they are only in kindy…not in primary or secondary school, of course…that’s why if I travel back hometown for CNY…I will applies leave for my kids, he,he…

    yeah…yeah…have to if travel far!

  14. I don’t mind my gal skip class too for valid reason!

As long it is not too frequent, then shud be ok hor….

  15. XY has skipped schl becoz we went outstation or abroad. But nvr coz she woke up late. Also, when she’s not well, I’ll let her rest at home till she’s fully recovered. But in QQ’s case, I can u/std ur concern coz she’s just gotten used to going to schl… wouldn’t want to lose that momentum, rite?

    yeah…u got it, Ginie!

  16. i don’t mind to let my kids to skip school.they are still young and perhaps there isn’t any homework in preschool.Don’t feel guilty if they don’t attend school if inconveniece circumtances happen!

hehe…me so kiasu scared it turn into a habit!

  17. Skipping school should be alright if they are sick. For your case, I think you can talk to the school’s principal to see if you can arrange temporary transport for either one way or two ways.

I would but didnt tot it would be this soon :(
