Chinese wooden clogs

On Sunday, my mum wanted me to go to a temple in Jonker Street (a very famous Melaka historical street). We then passed by a shops displaying full of the traditional Chinese Clogs, nicely crafted wooden-soled shoe. In the olden days, people love to wear this in their kitchen. I still remember wearing them whenever I visit wet kitchen of some homes.

According to my mum, during her time, a pair of beautifully painted clog would usually be part of the dowry that accompany a new bride to her new home. This is one pair we got for QQ. They look so beautifully painted, isn’t it?

  1. So cute the tweety bird clogs. I jes love to hear them go ‘clok clok clok clok’ when u walk. QiQi can balance on these high clogs?

CN: QQ can balance on the high shoes better than me :)

  2. Wah, what cute clogs. But must be careful when wearing clogs coz the bottom of the clogs hv no friction, so u slip very easily, esp when the floor is wet.

CN: Funny last time people used to wear this in the wet kitchen hah?? Must be no plastic shoes at that time…

  3. Nice looking clogs. Hopefully I can get one the next time I go to Malacca. Where can I find it?

CN: Alice, u will see a lot of these in Jonker Street :P

  4. Nice clogs. QiQi must be wearing it day and night.

CN: Joanne, QQ use it only as her indoor play shoes :P

  6. antique with new looks!!! I remember when I was young I was so afraid to wear them as they make loud noise and worry I might twist my ankle if not careful… hehe…

CN: Me too, so scared of falling!

  7. The clogs sure are pretty and cute. Wanted to buy for Des when we were in Melaka (dat was last year) but on second thoughts, I shoved off the idea cos when I thought of Des wearing the pair of clogs … clok clok clok in the apartment, I’m sure the ppl downstairs would come after us (heehee).

I heard the clogs were not only as dowry, a pair was to be presented to the CL after which she has done her job, besides her salary but I don’t think they practise such tradition these days.

CN: Oh, issit? Wah….like that better than giving the ang pow which is in hundreds :)

  8. nice klik klok..

CN: Hor-hor, no lar, i got QQ’s one at RM13! A big one (without design) used to be only RM1.xx
