This morning was a mad rush to me. Going to the market, getting some stuffs done for my nephew’s coming birthday celebration and yiks! Tomorrow will be our 50th National Day Celebration (more important to me, it is a public holiday!!!)
Actually nothing about Merdeka celebration to be excited about, nor we are going to the parade or see the fireworks in town. Just that it is going to be a fun long weekend since it is a public holiday. Since hubby will be around and my SIL will also come down to my place for a stay, I better get the house cleaned and tidy so at least it looks presentable, hahaha!!!

Qiqi is the only one very patriotic in the house, and got very excited about our flag. So wherever she goes, she keeps on shouting, “Mummy, look at the flag!”

A friend of mine is really into making her own jewelry as a past time for her hobby. During our previous fund raising activity in one of the main Buddhist and Cultural Exhibition, surprisingly her homemade jewelry was our best seller among all items on our booth. Of course there are some investments involves buying those gems and raw materials in order to produce them. I was really amazed that something like this can really turn into a business opportunity for stay-at-home mothers.

I just received another horror maid story from Sharon this morning. Guess what, her baby sitter’s maid hung herself in the bathroom few days ago! This maid just arrive and work here for 5 days and decided to take her own life away just like that. Full story in Sharon’s blog. This news really shuddered me as my BIL just experience a run away maid while his baby was sleeping in the house weeks back. Thank goodness, his maid has chosen to RUN AWAY instead of committing suicide in his home. What an incident!
*Since now is the Chinese Ghost Month, feel the goose bumps rising?*

Ever since I got the gym ball several months back, Qiqi has been pestering me to work on it, whenever she is at home. She has got great love for balls, and will use one of her little ball, trying to do the workout with me. I am tempted to get her a real gym ball, but they are really expensive. So we are waiting to collect enough points for Sustagen Kids Club for a gym ball redemption. For the time being, dear, you just got to wait and make use of the little ball that you have at home

Festive seasons and school holiday is around the corner. Most parents are making plans to clear their annual leaves by now to go for their year end holiday. With little kids around, we prefer a place like the Sahara hotel with variety entertainments for our young ones as well for adults. There is so much to look out for in this place for I am sure everyone will surely enjoy their stays at this place.

While browsing through the beautiful trophies, it reminds me of movie, “Shall We Dance” by Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez. I was so impressed by the ballroom dancing in that movie and almost got myself signed up with a dance school in my area to learn the dance steps. Besides getting our body to learn the grace and beautiful body poise, there so many physical and emotional benefits one can get through dancing.

Three years back, when I was pregnant with Qiqi, there was this pretty lady who was sitting just next to my hubby during a prenatal seminar in Tung Shin Maternity hospital. We didn’t actually talk during the seminar. The following day, in the Meadjohnson parenting forum, we sort of discover each other when she suspected I was the one sitting next to her. She thought I looked familiar and we found out we came from the same school in hometown. What a small world!
My due date was supposed to be a week later after hers, but due to some complications, I gave birth to Qiqi a few days before she delivered daughter, Joo. We have become close friends since then, calling each other thru phone sharing about the progress of our babies.
This morning, I received a sms from her that she had just gave birth to her new baby boy. Vichelle, I am so happy for you! It reminds me of those days when we had confinement at the same time. Too bad I didn’t manage to make it in time this time to have another confinement together. Will surely visit you when I go back Melaka this round

Yesterday we had Ullambana celebration (or known as the Chinese Halloween). We had a monk coming to our Buddhist centre to guide us for our chanting (paying respect to our departed ancestors), talks on filial piety and then offering of Dana to the monk.

This is the first time I attend a Dana offerings to the monk. We had pot lucks, mostly home cook foods, contributed by some families.

This is how Dana is performed. Each of us will take turns to scoop a spoon of rice into his special bowl (merely a teaspoon each since there are quite a lot of us).

This is how the alter is being set up.

Qiqi and Juan Yu
The kids were having fun playing and running around in the room while their parents were at the main hall performing chantings to their beloved departed ones. And through this event, I learned about the legend of Ullambana.

Qiqi has a new task at home, that is taking care of her baby doll. Tying 2 ends of a piece of cloth to my dining chairs, her baby gets to sleep in the cradle. Baby doll even has a milk bottle. While baby is sleeping, Qiqi has to cook and wash. When the baby cries, Qiqi will sit on a stool beside the baby to cradle her. It is cute to see her playing by herself at home sometimes. Wonder if in future she will have such patience taking care of her siblings this way!

Anyone ever tried using pickled lettuce to cook your favorite meat? Few weeks back, I ate a tofu dish in one of the restaurant in OUG (sorry I don’t remember the name of the restaurant) and they served very nice plain tofu with very delicious minced meat with pickled lettuce. This dish reminds me of the very famous Braised Pickled Lettuce Duck dish from Machap Baru in my previous trip back to Melaka.
So I bought a small can of pickled lettuce and make my own recipe.

Recipe: 2 pieces water tofu, pickled lettuce (mince them), mince pork, garlic, lots of minced ginger, some cooking wine (optional), sugar and salt to taste, light soy sauce.

Method:
1. Fry the ginger and garlic till fragant
2. Add in the pickles, then mince pork.
3. Add salt, some sugar and soy sauce to the dish.
4. Simmer with a little bit of water, and once you smell the aroma, add in the cooking wine.
5. Pour them onto your tofu.
Hmmm….it tasted really good!

One way to loose weight is to suppress the appetite and this is very helpful to help obese patients to reduce weight in short-term. It should be combined with good diet and sufficient exercise to achieve a permanent result. Phentermine, the most popular diet pills, works by helping to release certain chemicals in the brain to stops hunger. However it is always advisable to get them legally from local weight loss clinics.

At first when I saw the title from Montessorimum and Everydayhealy I thought it was revealing everything about me. Reading it once more, oh…only I realised it is actually about my mother. Good chance here for me to reveal the love and sacrifice that this very important person has done to me.
1. First of all, my mum has a weird surname, Hwan. And funny enough, all her siblings doesn’t bear the same surname spelling (some with Huan, some with Wan). According to my mother, since their parents can’t recognise words, they just pronounce and people at the registration did the spelling for their birth certificates.
2. She is a primary school teacher and now, a grandmother to 3 grandchildren, she hasn’t retire from her job.
3. My mum is a clean freak. Every corner in my house, even toilet is so clean that u can sleep almost everywhere. On contrary to me and my father, she keeps our home very neat.
4. I know it is not easy to maintain a super clean house. Now I understand why she works and clean the house, almost every moment when she is awake. No time for TV or any entertainments. Even now, she washes our clothes when we go home (what a lousy daughter I am!)
5. She is smart and very good in financial planning. She used to pay for the family when my father was jobless for sometime when we were very young.
6. At 24, she almost lost her life while giving birth to me.
7 . Till today, she still manage partly of my financial investment as she is very good in shares investment.
8. Funny that she can be extremely patient with her grandchildren, but not us when we were young last time. Not fair lar, mummy!
would like to read about what some friends’ say about their mum.
1. Janice
2. Michelle
3. Zara’s mum
4. Chooi Peng
5. Chanel
6. Jesslyn
7. Vien
8. Simple America

Anyone who is familiar with Melaka would know about the popular Century Hotel, the Condo Hotels. Built on a freehold land, initially it was sold at a very low price, as a property investment with a guarantee return rental. Now being one of the highest sought vacation Condo Hotels, we actually regretted for not taking the opportunity to invest this popular vacation property for now it is paying by itself. If only we knew….

Most people prefers Photobook over Pixart for their layout flexibility and photo edit. Hmm….I see certainly lots of improvement needed for Pixart be competitive in the market in their layout, for they have such good reasonable packages as compare to their competitor. When I rang up Pixart customer service the other day to inquire about the black background I want for my book, they said it is possible. Dominic, their Customer Service & Marketing Manager is even kind to email me a very easy instruction on how to modify to the background that I want. Read here:
In order to create your background as black, please follow these steps:
(a) Use a graphics software (e.g. MS Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, etc to create a black JPEG with the size 10.6” X 8.1”
(b) Save the JPEG to the following folder C:\Program Files\Pixart\PhotoStylist\themes
(c) Save the JPEG into 1 of the folders
(d) To load this into the software go to the CREATE PAGES tab
(e) Load any layout (except the EDGE 2 EDGE theme). Right click on an empty space to change the layout
(f) Browse to the folder where you saved the black background and select it to change the current page background

Does it look better now as compare to the white background in my earlier post? Just my personal preference. I just hope the print outs will be up to my expectation. Definitely easier than making my online scrap, hahaha….

Went to Mid Valley parenting expo during the weekend, and checked out on Photobook. They are having really interesting promotion during the expo with additional books for those hard cover books. Even their quality are good. But price is on the high side as they books comes in thick pages and good quality prints outs (if not mistaken, it is 80pages, double sided).
After a comparison with Pixart, another company which provides online book printing, I decided to get my book printed by Pixart.
Reasons:
1. This is a little souvenir for Qiqi’s nanny, so I won’t need many pages.
2. I prefer magazine quality photo printouts with hardcover.
3. Lastly it matches my budget!

……Working with cute faces……

……Can’t wait to see this printed out!……..

……Sweet moments with Uncle-Pa and Auntie-Ma…..
